Jarrod Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sproles Family Funeral Home - New Castle on Mar. 27, 2026.
Jarrod Anthony Smith, 37, passed away on March 26, 2026. Born on September 26, 1988, Jarrod lived a life marked by courage, loyalty, and a deep appreciation for the world around him.

A proud United States Marine, Jarrod served his country with honor for eight years. His service reflected the strongest parts of who he was - dedicated, disciplined, and always willing to step forward when called. He carried that same sense of duty into civilian life, staying connected to fellow service members and engaging with veteran organizations. Jarrod had a genuine heart for advocating for veterans, especially those navigating PTSD and addiction, and he cared deeply about ensuring they felt seen and supported.

Jarrod loved spending time outdoors - fishing, hunting, and enjoying the open air. He was also an avid sports fan, cheering passionately for the Chicago Cubs, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Purdue Boilermakers. Live music brought him joy, and he rarely passed up the chance to attend a concert.

Jarrod leaves behind his mother, Karen D. Shade-Charles; his brother, Shane Smith (Stephanie); and his sisters, Amanda Gick (Trevor), Brianna Goode (Casey), and Olivia Charles. He is also survived by his grandfather, Richard Shade, and his nieces - Aubrie Goode, Elaina Goode, Victoria Gick, and Charlie Smith - who will carry his memory forward in their own ways.

He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Matthew Smith, and his grandmother, Louella F. Shade.

Jarrod will be remembered for his humor, his strength, his pride in serving his country, and the way he made every gathering, concert, and outdoor adventure better just by being there. His memory lives on in the stories shared by those who knew him and the moments shaped by his presence.

A service to celebrate Jarrod's life will be held privately at a later date.

The Sproles family and staff are honored to care for Jarrod Anthony Smith and serve his family.
