Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sproles Family Funeral Home - New Castle on Mar. 16, 2026.
Charles Edward Hill, 76, of New Castle, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday evening, March 15, 2026, at his home, following a courageous battle with mantle cell lymphoma.
Charles was born June 9, 1949, in
Hazel Park, Michigan, to the late Edward Hill and Frances (Bose) Hill.
He graduated from Rochester High School in Michigan in 1969 and, as a proud American, went on to serve in the United States Air Force Reserves shortly after graduation. Charles later dedicated more than 30 years of hard work as a train car repairman for Grand Trunk Railroad, where he was known for his strong work ethic and dependable character.
On February 17, 1984, Charles married the love of his life, Donna Hill. Together they built a life centered around faith, family, and love as they raised three children.
Charles was truly a salt-of-the-earth Christian man whose faith shaped the way he lived and loved others. He had a heart for ministry and faithfully served as an Elder at Remnant Church on Broad Street, where he and his family had been members since 2010. His quiet strength, wisdom, and servant's heart left a lasting impact on those who knew him.
Outside of his career, Charles had a gift for woodworking. What began as a passion became a way for him to bless others. He loved sourcing beautiful hardwoods and turning them into meaningful pieces-cabinets, chests, and furniture that will continue to be treasured by friends and clients across the country for generations to come.
Above all, Charles cherished his family. Nothing brought him greater joy than being a husband, father, and especially a grandfather. He was deeply proud of his nine beloved grandchildren, who brought endless smiles and laughter into his life.
Those left to cherish Charles' memory include his dedicated wife, Donna Hill of New Castle; his 3 children, Scott Lounsberry of Brians, MI, Brian (Kari) Lounsberry of
Clarkston, MI, and Heather (Micheal) Drouin of New Castle; his grandchildren, Cameron, Justine, Mya, Angelina, Olivia, Alison, Ben, Callie, Noah, and one great grandbaby Isaiah; his 4 siblings, Donald, Jerry, Eugene, and Ilene, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will be holding a private Celebration of Life to honor Charles.
Charles will be remembered for his steady faith, kind spirit, strong hands, and the quiet way he cared for those around him. His legacy of faith and craftsmanship will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort knowing he is now at peace in the presence of his Savior.
Isaiah 41:10 "Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand."
