Jason Scott Johnston, 42, of Weirton, WV passed away unexpectedly on April 11, 2024.
Born in Fayetteville, NC, on August 21, 1981, Jason was the beloved son of Murray "Scott" Johnston and Julieann Persinger Johnston. His birth came during his father's service in the United States Army. His family later resettled in Weirton, WV, where Jason attended local schools and graduated from Weir High School in 2000.
Following high school, Jason furthered his education at a two-year technical college in Chicago, IL, before embarking on a career as a Title Abstractor in the Gas and Oil Industry.
Jason was a passionate lover of the outdoors with a particular fondness for kayaking. His adventures on the water were among his most cherished moments. Known for his expansive heart, Jason adored all animals, but none more so than his Chihuahua, Laken, who was a constant and loving companion. Sadly, Laken passed away a few days after Jason.
His musical tastes were defined by a deep appreciation for Bob Marley, whose rhythms and lyrics spoke to Jason's soul. He held a special affection for the South and the ocean, with Myrtle Beach, South Carolina being a favored family vacation spot that held numerous fond memories.
A fan of cinema, Jason relished watching his favorite movies repeatedly, finding comfort and joy in their familiar scenes. Reflecting his father's airborne service, Jason recently fulfilled a lifelong dream by taking a skydive-an exhilarating leap that spoke to his adventurous spirit.
Jason leaves behind his parents, Scott and Julieann, his daughter, Avery Johnston, whom he adored more than anything in the world, and Avery's mother, Leah Krakower. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him, but his legacy of kindness, bravery, and compassion will forever remain.
A private memorial service will be held to celebrate Jason's life. Cremation will take place at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV.
Jason's memory will be cherished and kept alive in the stories shared by his family and friends. To share stories please visit www.grecohertnick.com

Jason was one of my really good friends when I met him back in high school. He was a really good dude who always had a smile on his face and was always making us laugh. He'll be deeply missed. Rest easy, "Flip."
