Jasper Rush Jr.

Jasper "Sonny" Furman Rush, Jr., 84, resident of Sloan Street, Troy, widower of Jane Chandler Rush, passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at Hospice & Palliative Care of the Piedmont.

Born October 3, 1940, in Greenwood, SC, he was a son of the late Lois Dalton Rush and Jasper Furman Rush, Sr. He was a graduate of Greenwood High School, Greenwood College of Commerce and retired from the South Carolina Transport Police.

He was an active member of Troy Baptist Church and was also a member of the Stonewall Masonic Lodge in Troy and a founding member of the Troy Fire Department.

Surviving is his daughter, Betsy Owings and husband Tripp; his two grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Hampton and husband Trey and Chandler Owings and wife Melody, all of Greenwood; two great-grandchildren, Emily Jane Hampton and Hank Owings; and his two sisters, Eugenia Malphrus and Etta Rush, both of Greenville.

In addition to his parents and wife, Jasper was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Brooks Hampton.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Saturday at Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Earle Readett officiating.

Burial will follow at Oakbrook Memorial Park with Masonic Rites.

Pallbearers will be members of the South Carolina Transport Police Honor Guard.

Honorary escorts will be members of the Troy Fire Department and current and former South Carolina Transport Police.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-7 Friday evening.

The family would like to thank the staff of Pulmonary Rehabilitation and Greenwood Home Respiratory Care for their care during his illness.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
