He is preceded in death by his father, Timoteo Garate and brother, Roberto Garate.
Left to cherish his memories are his beloved wife, Nelda Guzman Garate, his two daughters, Venessa (Ben Vela) and Valerie (Christopher Ramirez) his granddaughter, his mother Macrina Mendoza Garate, his brothers Carlos Garate and Ramon Garate and his sisters Estela Villarreal, Maria C. Gomez, Elizabeth Tamez, Soila Chavez, Rosa Marquez, and Elma Garate.
Visitation will be on Sunday, December 17 at 4 p.m. followed by a Holy Rosary at 7 p.m. at Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission. Javier's funeral service will be on Monday, December 18 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Mission.

Javier and I grew up together, we were brothers. We remained in touch through the years, he always called on special occasions especially on my Birthday, we were born 3 days apart and he never failed to call and wish me a Happy Birthday. Sadly he did not answer my last Birthday call! Our prayers and condolences to his family!!!
We will miss you my brother!
