Jay L. Absher, Bridgeville, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, January 30, 2026, he was 75. Jay was born in North Carolina to the late, Levi and Ina Absher.
Jay was an auto mechanic by trade, but he also owned and operated Double A Painting and Repairs, alongside his wife, for over 23 years. When he was not hard at work, Jay did enjoy tinkering in his garage and working on his next antique car build. In years past, he could be seen at various local car cruise ins and shows, something he enjoyed very much.
Jay was known for his kind, easy-going, and laid-back demeanor. He loved being around family and spending as much time as possible with them. He touched many lives, and will be sadly missed.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Richard Absher, Dexter Absher, Leroy Absher, and Barbara Warfle.
Jay is survived by his wife of 24 years, Shirley Absher; children, John Absher (Judy), Kevin J. Absher, Jason Horsman (Patty), Karly Rankin (Patrick); siblings, Anne “Susie” Brittingham, Diana West (Richard), Nancy Passwaters; grandchildren, Anita Absher, Christine Absher, Kevin Absher Jr., TJ Absher, Ina Absher, Kaila Brooks-Coleman (Amir), Gaby Horsman, Julia Horsman, Austin Horsman, Paige Rankin, Kaebrie Rankin, Kestyn Rankin; great grandchildren, Keelan Brooks-Coleman, Kaislee Brooks-Coleman, Anna Bell Absher, Jacie Absher, numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Jay’s life will be held at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery (South) Chapel, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE 19966, on Thursday, February 5, 2026 at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any veterans organization of your choice, in honor of Jay's service to his country.
