Jay McCurdy was born on October 11, 1953, to Roland “Mac” and Marguerite (Lindquist) McCurdy in Aberdeen, SD, where he grew up, and graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1971.
Jay married Debra Gardner on January 17, 1975. They were blessed with two children: Tim and Tiffany. Later, Jay remarried Dorothy Rice, and he cherished his relationship with Dorothy’s children, Billy (Holly) Rice and Allison (Mike) Hulsoff.
Throughout his life, Jay was an avid sportsman who loved fishing, hunting ducks, and spending time with his dog, Chloe. The family takes great comfort in knowing Chloe was by his side when he passed. One of his favorite passions was hunting ducks and geese. Jay loved to reminisce about the windy, snowy days hunting around Sand Lake Refuge in Brown County. He looked forward to pheasant hunting openers, as they often attracted family and friends from Minnesota who would come over to hunt and hang out. Jay loved to fish Carp tournaments in the Aberdeen area with his good friend Tim Weigel. He loved fishing walleye with his good buddy Mike Hughes, too. Jay loved hanging out with his friends at the yellow house and never turned down a free meal. Jay maintained 40-plus years of sobriety. Jay loved seeing/talking to his niece Michelle (Brian) McCurdy-Larson and 3 nephews, Mike (Mary) McCurdy, Matt McCurdy, and Tyler McCurdy.
Jay was a skilled carpenter and a perfectionist with his tools. In 2019, he was diagnosed with lung cancer, which he successfully beat in January 2020. In recent years, he has faced multiple health challenges, with strength, resilience, and a little bit of stubbornness.
Grateful for having shared Jay's life are his son, Tim (Stacy) McCurdy of Aberdeen, SD; daughter Tiffany (Dallas) Boelman of Sioux Falls, SD; and two grandchildren, Brecken Boelman and Marissa McCurdy.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents and two beloved brothers, Cam (Carol) McCurdy and Dean McCurdy. Jay was also preceded in death by his beloved labs: Sheba I, Sheba II, Coke, Jess, and Tess.
