Jay Mueller Obituary

Jay Edward Mueller was born on August 1, 1942, in Decatur, Illinois, to William A Mueller, Jr, and Esther L. Gray Mueller. He passed away on January 2, 2026, in Indianapolis, Indiana. On August 12, 1967, Jay married Lois (Bunch) Mueller. Together, they made Monticello, Illinois, their home, where Jay personally built the house that became the heart of their family's memories and joy. They celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary this past August. Lois survives him. Jay opened J.E. Mueller Insurance Agency in 1981. For many years, he ran his business, forming strong bonds with clients and friends. In addition, he worked at thePiatt County courthouse and created and operated the county website. Serving his community with pride and reliability, Jay also took on the role of Cub Scout leader and was the second in a three-generation line of Eagle Scouts. Jay enjoyed many hobbies. He was a phenomenal bowler, competing in multiple leagues and traveling across the country for different tournaments. He also enjoyed working on cars and computers, following the Chicago Cubs and Bears, listening to and arranging music for his church's singing group "Those Guys", water skiing, and being a coffee connoisseur. He loved learning new things and was always tinkering or fixing something. Jay was devoted to his family and found joy in time together. He attended his grandchildren's events and cherished gatherings filled with laughter and stories. Jay is also survived by his brother Bill Mueller (Sherry), sister Sue Farr (Tim), daughter Deanna Broom (Gerald), son Mark Mueller (Stacey), granddaughters Jenna, Stephanie, and Samantha, grandsons Sam and Calvin, great-grandchildren Evelynn, Aria, Warren, and Alivia Jay, several cousins, nieces, and nephews. They will always cherish their memories of him. Jay will be remembered for his love of family, strong work ethic, and genuine nature. Hewill be deeply missed by all who knew him. A Celebration of Life honoring Jay Mueller will take place on Saturday, January 17, at Monticello United Methodist Church. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m., followed by a funeral service at noon, to share stories and celebrate Jay's life. Memorial contributions can be made to the Monticello United Methodist Church Music ministry.

Jay was the best friend anyone could have and he had many friends in Monticello. I am so sorry for his loss. I will always remember and cherish our friendship.
He will be missed by me and many people. RIP Jay
