Our world grew dimmer on Sunday, October 12, 2025, with the unexpected passing of Jayme Rachelle Jorstad, at the age of 38, leaving a profound void in the lives of everyone who was lucky enough to have known her. Jayme was born to Richard and Cathy in Williston, ND, and grew up in West Fargo, until moving to Tioga in 2007, where she met the love of her life, Matthew Jorstad, and went on to raise four beautiful children and touch the lives of so many she met along the way.
Jayme set out to live each and every day to its absolute fullest. If there was a party, Jayme was the life of it. She shined bright, leaving a trail of happy memories and shared jokes wherever she went. She was the kind of person who didn't just have friends-she collected souls, embracing new people with an open heart and an infectious smile. She was the friend who always showed up, the one who would drop everything to help a neighbor out. Jayme's zest for life was boundless. She was an avid concert-goer, seasoned camper, and a patient fisherwoman, always happiest when a campfire was roaring, a line was cast into the lake, or when dancing to the music of one of her many favorite artists. Her energy was magnetic, and her ability to make people laugh and feel welcome was legendary.
Jayme's greatest pride was her family. She was a loving and fiercely dedicated wife and mother. A foundation for her husband Matthew and their four children Madi, McCoy, Marshall and Micah. She was the anchor that kept them grounded, a constant, unwavering presence at every game, concert and milestone. Jayme was a proud yet protective big sister to Briana, a role she cherished throughout her life. She leaves behind a legacy of laughter and cherished memories as the fun-loving and adventurous big sister who always knew how to make things exciting. She was the beloved daughter of Cathy and Woody, who were immeasurably proud of the woman she had become. Her love taught her family daily the importance of making time for the people you love.
Beyond her family and friends, Jayme was a dedicated servant to her community. She generously gave her time to many local programs, motivated purely by a desire to help and connect with others. Her empathy, her incredible ability to welcome everyone, and her tireless willingness to lend a hand were true hallmarks of her beautiful character. Jayme will be deeply missed by the countless people whose lives were bettered by her generosity and her unwavering commitment to helping others. While her time on earth was tragically cut short, the vibrant, loud, and passionate way she loved will continue to inspire all those she left behind.
Jayme worked for the Tioga School District from 2017-2025 touching the lives of countless students and staff. She was always available to lend an ear to generations of teenagers throughout her years at the school. Most recently, she made the courageous and exciting decision to return to school at Spectrum School of Massage to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a massage therapist. She was thriving and genuinely excited to begin this new chapter in life.
She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Hamers; her grandfather, Lloyd Hamers; her grandparents, Earl and Evelyn Curtiss; her aunt, Sharon Curtiss; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Maynard and Myrtle Jorstad; her brother-in-law, Marlyn Jorstad; and her niece-in-law, Miranda Jorstad.
Jayme is survived by her beloved husband, Matthew Jorstad; and their four beautiful children-Madisyn, McCoy, Marshall, and Micah-all of Tioga, North Dakota. She also leaves behind her sister, Briana Bitterman of Minneapolis, MN; her mother, Cathy (Rod) Woodward of Deer Creek, MN; her adoptive father, Bill Bitterman of Fargo, ND; her brother, Justin Hamers; her aunt, Evonne (Rick) Hickok; her uncle, Chuck Curtiss; her cousins, Carl (Mattea) Curtiss, Eric (Micah) Curtiss, Sarah (Jake) Schumacher and Jessica (Aaron) Barclay; her adoptive grandparents, Bob and Arlene Bitterman; her brothers-in-law, Marty (Amalia) Jorstad and Mitchell Jorstad; her sisters-in-law, Malonie Jorstad and Malinda (Layne) Ferguson; her "pseudo sister," Julie Bourque; and many nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her dearly.
