Jayne P. Schmidt

Jayne Petrie Schmidt, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2024, at the Home of the Good Shepherd in Saratoga Springs, New York. She was born on October 15, 1943, in Brooklyn, New York and lived a life filled with love, joy, and dedication to her family and friends. Jayne married the love of her life, Arthur John Schmidt, on April 23, 1966. Together, they built a strong and loving family and created countless cherished memories over the years.
Jayne was predeceased by her husband, Arthur John Schmidt; her mother, Luella Petrie; and her father, Edmund Petrie. Jayne is survived by her loving children, Gregory and Wendy Schmidt, and Patricia Schmidt and Michael Frenkel. She was the cherished grandmother of Austin and Mia Jansons, Abigail Reynolds, Tyler and Julianna Schmidt, Brandon and Madison Schmidt, and the proud great-grandmother of Colton Schmidt. She was also the eldest of five sisters and brothers, Bob Petrie, Luanne Jesman, Ken Petrie, Barbara Maderi, and Jim Petrie.
Jayne's legacy is one of love and commitment to her family. She devoted her life to nurturing her children and grandchildren, creating a home filled with warmth, kindness, and unwavering support. Her gentle spirit and caring nature left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her.
Jayne worked hard throughout her career in retail holding positions at Petrie's 5&10, Hallmark, and PepsiCo. She always demonstrated a strong work ethic and dedication in every role she undertook. Jayne loved a good game with friends and was a fierce competitor, always bringing her best to every match. She had a passion for capturing photos of friends and family, and she enjoyed creating picture collages that preserved cherished memories.
A calling hour will be held from 10am to 11am on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Christ Episcopal Church, 15 West High Street, Ballston Spa. A memorial service will follow at 11am. After the service, the family will be hosting a lunch reception in the parish hall to celebrate Jayne's life and share memories together. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to Christ Episcopal Church.
Jayne will be deeply missed, but her legacy of peace, love, joy, and hope will continue to live on in the hearts of her loved ones.
