Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sheridan Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Oct. 1, 2025.
Jean Rumsey McWilliams Allred went to be with the Lord on August 11th, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family. She is in the presence of the Lord, for whom she has served faithfully for so many decades. She has received that welcome from Christ that we all long to hear: "Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of the Lord." Matthew 25:23
Jean was born in New York City on December 2, 1929, and was adopted at the age of 2-months old by James B. McWilliams and Elizabeth M. Rumsey McWilliams of Pittsburgh, PA. They later adopted a son, Robert B. McWilliams. Jean attended Ellis School in Pittsburgh, PA, Baldwin School in Bryn Mawr, PA and Wesley College in Wellesley, MA, where she received her bachelor's degree in English literature.
In 1950, while on vacation with her brother at Eaton's Ranch in Wolf, WY she met Wayne Allred, and they were married November 1, 1952. They had one daughter, Katherine Mary Allred. They later divorced but remained good friends.
Jean's focal point of her life was her relationship with her Lord and Savior and her family. She could often be found reading her Bible, and if not there, caring for and giving to others, having Bible studies, anywhere she could be encouraging them with the Word of God, and sharing the wisdom found there. She did everything in her power to keep her family together and guide them in the right direction. She held on to her faith throughout her life, always turning to prayer and scripture in all times of joy and sorrow. She prayed for many who did not know it as if she knew exactly what they wanted or needed. She felt it was her Christian responsibility. It would not be uncommon for you to find folded-up pieces of paper in all her books, Bibles, and cards given to her throughout the years. She put them anywhere she could. She also saved prayer lists, passages, notes, quotes, and meaningful scriptures.
Jean was a member of the Calvary Episcopal Church in Pittsburgh PA where she sang in the junior and women's choir. When she moved to Sheridan, she was a member of the St. Peter's Episcopal Church for over 50 years where she sang in the choir, worked in the church library and was on the woman's council. At the time of her death Jean was a member of Grace Anglican Church,
Sheridan, WY.
In 95 years, Jean had many likes and hobbies: swimming, horseback riding, riding motorcycles, riding snow machines, reading, crewel work, gardening, crossword puzzles, watching TV, games, singing, the mountains, writing poems/stories, playing peek-a-boo with Sawyer and so much more.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James B. McWilliams and Elizabeth M Rumsey McWilliams, her brother and his first wife Evelyn B. McWilliams, a nephew, Bruce E. McWilliams, a niece Elizabeth McWilliams, and her daughter Katherine M. Brandt. She is survived by her grandchildren. Danielle M. Brandt,
