Jean Marie Baker, age 93, of Bend, Oregon, passed away peacefully surrounded by both sons and a grandson on July 4, 2025, leaving a void her family cannot fill.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents (Roy and Winifred) and both sisters (Mary and Lucy). She is survived by both sons (Steve and Tom), both daughters-in-law (Barbara and Tamara), grandchildren (Ben, Adelaide, Morgan and Grant) and 3 great-grandchildren (Amelia, Heidi, and Cade), who will never forget the love she brought into their lives.

She was born on July 2, 1932 in Burley, Idaho, to Roy and Winifred Marquess. Jean was the oldest of three daughters (Jean, Mary and Lucy). They had a happy childhood on a farm outside of Paul, Idaho.

Jean earned her RN before marrying Jack Thomas Baker, and they were married for 21 years. Jean, Jack and their 2 sons traveled all across the United States while he was in the Air Force.

After her divorce from Jack, she moved to Boise, Idaho and resumed her career as a O.B. nurse for 20 more years. After she retired she traveled to China, Portugal, Spain and other countries as she enjoyed traveling very much.

She volunteered as a docent in the Boise Art Museum working with school aged children as she enjoyed sharing her love of the arts with them. She attended the Cathedral of the Rockies Methodist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir.

She attended Boise Symphony and the summer Shakespeare festival every year for decades. She also loved to read and was a lifelong learner.

As Jean aged she moved close to family in the Portland, OR area where she lived and volunteered near a nature preserve where she liked to walk.

Later she moved closer to her oldest son, in Bend, OR where she moved into an assisted living apartment and then into memory care.

Her sons, Steven and Tom Baker, were her pride and joy and she had many fond memories of her children growing up. She was an excellent cook, a master quilter, knitter and loved working in her garden. She loved to socialize with friends, of which there were many.
