Waunita Jean (Alumbaugh) Bishop, 96 of Odessa, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at New Haven Living Center in Odessa.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 28, 2022, at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, 306 S. 2nd St., Odessa, Missouri, 64067, 816-633-5524. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 28, 2022, at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Odessa Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church or Odessa Cemetery Association. Memories of Jean and condolences for her family may be left at or on our Facebook Page.
Jean was born on August 30, 1925, in Odessa, MO to Homer B. and Irene (Bishop) Alumbaugh. She graduated from Odessa High School. On October 3, 1958, Jean was united in marriage to Carl Lewis Bishop in Independence, MO. They had 45 wonderful years together before Carl passed on January 6, 2003. Jean was a homemaker, where she spent many hours taking care of her family and home. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Odessa and the Women of Faith at First Baptist Church. In addition to spending time with family and friends, Jean enjoyed quilting, painting, her flower garden, playing spinner dominos and bridge, cooking, and making her famous chocolate chip cookies.
Survivors include four children, Larry Heuer (Joan) of Lake Lotawana, MO, Barry Bishop (Don Nieto) of Kansas City, MO, Martha Davis (Bob) of Kirksville, MO, and Carla Maybell of Independence, MO; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren; one brother, Francis Shorty Alumbaugh (Bonnie) of Odessa, MO; a sister-in-law, Martha Ann Alumbaugh, of Odessa, MO; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by a son, Gary Bishop; a brother, Ed Alumbaugh; and three sisters, Kathleen Bennett, Mary Cobb, and Joan Dyer.
