Anna Bishop Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Schetter Funeral Home on Feb. 24, 2026.
Anna L. Bishop, 89, of Riverside, previously Cherry Hill, NJ, peacefully passed surrounded by her loving family.

Wife of the late Edwin H. Bishop, Sr.; she is survived by her five children, Edwin H. Bishop, Jr. (Carleen) of Delran, Gregory C. Bishop (Michelle) of Cherry Hill, Jeffrey S. Bishop of Erial, Timothy A. Bishop of Pennsauken, and Michelle A. Fassano (Chris) also of Riverside. She is the loving grandmother to 19 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and 3 godchildren. Also survived by sisters-in-law, Mary DiMiero and Margaret Bishop, and brother-in-law Don Hoger. Predeceased by her parents Louisa and Ceasar DiMiero and her twin brother James DiMiero.

Anna was born in Philadelphia, PA, and resided in Riverside, NJ most of her life before moving to Cherry Hill to raise her family. There was nothing in life she enjoyed more than doing that. In fact, taking care of anyone and everyone was the way Anna lived, from babysitting for working mothers - while raising her own children, to caring for her parents and mother-in-law later in their lives. She helped start the hot lunch program at the old Queen of Heaven School, where she was treasured by teachers and students alike, and drove a school bus for years not just for a paycheck, but more for the satisfaction of helping. There was nothing Anna did in life where she didn't give 100 percent of herself.

There once was a friend of her husbands who needed a place to stay when times were tough. Ed brought home his pal from the Camden Elks Club, and Anna opened her heart and home, providing a loving shelter for a struggling friend. Raising four boys was the challenge that many can envision, but Anna did it in a way that demanded their respect, garnered their love and formed them into respected men. When the youngest and apple of her eye, Michelle, was born, a mother-daughter bond was formed that was unmatched. There may have never been a better friendship between a mother and daughter.

There were meals for friends of her children at the oddest of hours, always words of advice, never judgment. Asked to give five words to describe her mother, Michelle didn't hesitate with caring, funny, sweet, loving and strong.

To escape the daily rigors of life, Anna enjoyed going to the casinos with her friends, having a drink or two at the old Coastline in Cherry Hill, and being the adult that all her children's friends could talk to. Later in life she cherished cheering on her Phillies and Eagles and was a constant watcher of the Game Show Network.

When her time to leave us was near, she asked her children if they were all okay, needing to know that they would be without her. She then offered that her love, Ed, was coming to get her the next day and, true to her word, he did.

There is a line in a song that says, "I'm a lucky man to count on both hands the ones I love. Some folks just have one, others they got none." There aren't enough hands to count the ones Anna loved and certainly not enough for the ones who loved her.

Relatives and friends may greet the family on, February 28, 2026, from 10-11:30AM, at Christ Our Light Catholic Church, 402 N. Kings Hwy., Cherry Hill, NJ. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30AM, at the church.

Interment will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Cherry Hill, NJ.
