Jean Margaret Droste, age 88, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2025, at Lakeview Assisted Living. She was the loving spouse of John (deceased 2013) for 51 years and much beloved mother of Julie A., Peter John, and Thomas A. She is further survived by her sister Mary (Jack, deceased 2024) and preceded in death by her parents George and Virginia.
Born in Muskegon, MI, Jean was the daughter of the late George W. and Virginia Johnson Hanson. She graduated from Western Michigan University and taught elementary education within the Grosse Pointe, Michigan School District in the early to mid-1960's before adopting Julie, then Peter, and eventually Tommy.
She, John, and the kids lived in Grosse Pointe, MI, until she and John retired and moved to Keowee Key, Salem, South Carolina in 1990. In Grosse Pointe, Jean loved to volunteer as a Red Cross "Gray Lady" at then Bon Secour Hospital, was a Girl Scout Troop Leader, loved to bowl on Wednesdays with the St. Paul's on the Lake Parish league, and play bridge with her fellow teachers. After moving to South Carolina, she continued bowling, took up square dancing with John, as well as clogging with a great group of ladies. She was an active member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, especially with their annual Christmas Giving Tree. Jean's retirement passion was playing golf, and she became quite good, including making her own Hole-in-One!
Heartfelt thanks to the wonderful caregivers and staff of Lakeview Assisted Living and the hospice team from Medical Services of America.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be offered on May 30, 2025, at 11 AM at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Seneca, SC, immediately followed by internment in St. Paul's columbarium.
