Jean Frances Lucey Dunn, aged 90, of Upper Darby, PA, died in her home on October 3, 2025, clocking out on a Friday a little after 5 pm.
Jean was born on January 24, 1935 in Upper Darby, PA to James F. and Alice M. W. Lucey. She graduated from Notre Dame High School in Moylan, PA in 1952. In 1961 she married Robert C. Dunn of Wilmington, DE, having met him at a drum and bugle corps party. In 1966, her only child, Johanna C. Dunn, was born.
Jean worked as a bookkeeper and administrative coordinator at various companies, including Essbar Equipment Company and DuPont, ending her working career as a part-time office assistant at St. Patrick's Church in Wilmington, DE where she also attended Latin Mass and served as Secretary for the Regina Coeli Society.
Jean loved bowling, playing cards, dining out with friends, traveling, getting her hair done, wearing fabulous hats, and watching professional football. She belonged to the Beautiful Brandywine Butterflies chapter of the Red Hat Society, serving as its Queen Mother for a brief time.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her two Shetland sheepdogs, Henry and Duchess. She is survived by her daughter.
Her high school class motto was "dare to be different" and she fulfilled that in all her life.
The family would like to thank the staff at ChristianaCare-AccentCare Hospice and the following medical personnel: Dr. Bruce Benge, Dr. Kevin Copeland, Dr. James Fierro, Dr. James Gentile, Dr. Harold Gruber, Dr. Feroz Abubacker Kaniyamparambil, Dr. Jason Kaplan, Dr. Sujung Park, and Dr. Nicole Schneider.
Visitation will be held at St. Patrick's Church, 1414 King Street Wilmington, DE 19801 on October 7th from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. prior to the Latin Mass of Christian Burial at 11 A.M. Interment will follow at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery in Springfield, PA.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Tunnel to Towers (t2t.org) or Brandywine Valley SPCA (bvspca.org) are suggested.
