Jean Chapman Mabry Edwards of Norwood, passed away at Forrest Oakes Healthcare Center in Albemarle on Friday, November 8, 2024.
She was born April 14, 1933, in Charlotte, NC to Debbie Lee Hurley and Eddie Lee Chapman. Mrs. Edwards was a hard worker from an early age, working at several businesses in Norwood. She worked at Norwood Drug Store for fifteen years and Burlington Hosiery for nine years. She was a sewer for American Lockstitch, Quality Apparel, and Gilead. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church in Norwood and later a member of Mt. Gilead First Baptist Church. Jean loved to travel and cook. She was a devoted daughter, loving wife, and thoughtful sister and sister-in-law. Jean loved her family and friends, was always glad to see them and glad to spend time with them. Her positive attitude and sweet disposition will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Franklin Eugene Mabry (1989); her second husband, Raymond Palmer Edwards (2017); two sisters, Helen Louise Chapman Beck and Jessie Virginia "Monk" Chapman Purser Louder; a brother, Billy Joe Chapman; a niece, Catherine Elaine "Kitty" Purser Kirkley (Paul) and a nephew, Bill Lee Purser.
Survivors are nieces and nephews; Cliff Edwards (Cathy), Barbara Ruark (Howard), Ronald Purser (Debbie) and Michael Reid Chapman. Sisters-in-law are Emogene Chapman, Ann Edwards, and Violet Edwards.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, PO Box 207, Mt. Gilead, NC 27306.
The family will receive friends at Edwards Funeral Home in Norwood on Tuesday November 12, 2024 from 1:30 pm until 2:30 pm. A Graveside memorial to honor her life will follow at Norwood Cemetery with Dr. Kevin Taylor officiating.
