Jean Edwards Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc. on Mar. 16, 2026.
Jean M. Edwards, of Jefferson Township, passed away after a long and remarkable life.

She was born on September 26, 1926, in Sunderland, England, to Florence Groom Mitchell and Daniel P. Mitchell. Jean came to the United States with her family in 1929, beginning a life that would span nearly a century.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Willard G. Edwards (1989); her brother, Robert Mitchell; and her son, Daniel Edwards (2024).

She is survived by her sons Christopher Edwards of Jefferson Township and his girlfriend Donna Evans; Scott Edwards and his wife Patricia of Dunmore; and Gordon Edwards and his wife Lori of Harding. She is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Alita Edwards.

Jean was a proud grandmother to Daniel Edwards Jr. and wife Bonnie, Heather Meagher and husband Tim, Samuel Edwards and wife Jaime, Abigail Cummings and husband Raymond, Christian Edwards, Jessica Birmingham and husband Stephen, Adam Edwards, and Lydia Edwards, and she was also blessed with 11 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her tremendous joy.

After graduating from Dickson City High School, Jean participated in the Globe Store Cadet training program and continued on to work at The Globe Store. She later attended a program at Moses Taylor Hospital, where she learned shorthand and dictation, and she went on to work at the hospital taking dictation for doctors. Jean was an excellent typist and always dreamed of becoming a court stenographer.

Originally a city girl from Dickson City, Jean reluctantly moved to what she once called "the country." Over time, she embraced country life and became a true country girl. She developed a deep love for nature, animals, birds, and especially dogs. She loved flowers and gardening, enjoyed walking around the ponds on her property, and spent time picking blueberries from her blueberry patch. She also learned to can her own vegetables and became a renowned pie baker whose homemade pies were enjoyed by family and friends alike.

Together with her husband Willard, Jean operated a luncheonette on Route 348 in Mount Cobb, where people came from near and far for her homemade pies and famous Texas wiener sauce, and later helped develop Jefferson Heights, Happy Acres, Elmdale Estates, and G&S Carwashes, leaving a lasting mark on the community.

Jean was a strong and determined woman with remarkable willpower. She gave her family love, guidance, wisdom, and many memorable sayings and bits of advice throughout her life.

Her family would like to extend a special thank you to her devoted caregivers Alize, Tamra, Lisa, and Sydney, and to Danielle, who has been a good family friend, and a special thank you to the nurses and staff of Traditional Hospice Care, especially Heather, Danielle, and Amy, for their kindness, compassion, and care.

Jean will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her. Her strength, resilience, and love will live on through the generations of family whose lives she shaped and inspired.

The funeral will be Thursday at 11AM in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc. 318 East Drinker Street in Dunmore. Family and friends may visit on Thursday from 10AM until the time of service. Interment will follow in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.

Memorial contributions may be made in Jean's memory to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road Clarks Summit, PA 18411.
