Jean Hicks Fulkerson, age 92, of the Arcadia community, gained her eternal reward in the arms of Jesus on Saturday, May 10, 2025. Jean was born on September 26, 1932 to the late John T. and Georgianna Hicks. She graduated from Blountville High School.
She was employed for many years by Kingsport Upholstery and as a manager of Stanley Home Products. Most recently, she was a faithful member of Mt. Vernon Church in Hiltons, Virginia, and previously Arcadia UMC.
Jean loved life, loved people, and loved front porch sitting, but most importantly, she loved her Lord and Savior, and she wanted everyone to know it. She was always talking to strangers, (even shady characters), all the while Vickie and John unsuccessfully tried to deter her.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, C. Fulkerson; brothers, J.D. and Lloyd Hicks; sister, Shirley Hicks; and two infant brothers.
Those left to cherish her memory and spirit are her son, John Fulkerson and wife, Tanja; daughter, Vickie Carter and husband, Mark; grandsons, John Chandler Fulkerson, Justin (Ivanna) and Taelor Evans, (Daysia); sisters, Elizabeth Gibson and Carolyn Allen; several nieces and nephews; her dog, Oreo; and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends from 11am – 1pm on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at Hamlett Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. A service will follow at 1pm with Dr. Troy Rust and Rev. Larry Stallard officiating. Music will be provided by Philip T. Myers and the Rust Family.
A graveside service will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Mark Carter, Terry Gillenwater, Larry Ball, James Gilliam, Rudy Keller, Greg Jessee, Gary Hicks and Mike Hicks.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Daniel Carroll and the staff of Gentiva Hospice, especially Sarah and Nichole. Also, a heartfelt thanks to Amy Rust and family for the many months of care and love.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Mt. Vernon Church, PO Box 175, Hiltons, VA, 24258.
