Jean Taylor Hasting, age 92, of Berryton, KS passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, November 1, 2025 in Topeka, KS. She was born on February 19, 1933 in Etta, Mississippi to the late Ida Elizabeth and George Richard Taylor.

Jean married Joseph (Joe) Lee Hasting on March 6, 1953 in Memphis, TN. After her husband’s service in the Navy was completed, they made their home in Berryton, KS. Driving a school bus for the Shawnee Heights Unified School District #450 for over twenty five years brought her great joy. She and Joe were long time members of the Berryton United Methodist Church, and Jean was known for her delicious pies at the church potlucks.

Jean had many passions in life, including cooking, gardening, fishing, sewing, and crafting, but her greatest love was her family. She was Meme or Mammie to her grandchildren and great grandchildren and cherished her time with them. Later in life, one of the things she enjoyed most was to call them on their birthdays each year to sing “Happy Birthday.”

Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Joe Hasting, parents: Ida Elizabeth and George Richard Taylor, twelve siblings, and two grandsons: Luke and Riley Price.

Jean is survived by her children: Vicki Hinson (Dave), John Hasting (Patti), and Jeanie Arnold (Charlie) / Grandchildren: Justin Hasting (Kendal), Kate Kohl (Abe), Riley Price (Stephanie), Taylor Hasting, Josie Hurr (Elijah) and Julia Thornton (Ethan) / Great Grandchildren: Linnie Kohl, Asa Kohl, MayAmelia Hurr and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, November 7, 2025 at Penwell -Gabel - Midtown Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Avenue in Topeka, KS. A graveside service will take place immediately following at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, 8616 SE Ratner Road, Berryton, KS with a dinner and social at the Berryton United Methodist Church, 7010 SE Berryton Road, afterward.

In loving memory of Jean Hasting, donations may be made to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation or St. Jude’s’s Children’s Research Hospital.
