Ida Jean "Jean" Hellstern, 91, of Turtle Lake passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at Monroe Manor. She was born June 10, 1934, in Dallas, WI to Theodore and Zella (Burch) Hughes.
She was married in St. Ann Rectory, Turtle Lake on November 24, 1951, to Joseph Hellstern who preceded her in death on January 19, 2015.
Jean enjoyed to work in her flower gardens. She and Joe became avid bird watchers in their retirement years. She liked to travel, and playing Scrabble (which she was very competitive about). Jean was a member of Operation Hope; sewing many blankets which were donated throughout the missions. Her cooking skills were beloved by family, especially in regard to her apple pies and chicken dumpling soup.
She is survived by her children: Cathy (Ray) Hansen of Turtle Lake, Susan (Dan Hoffman) Hellstern of Valdosta, GA, Joe Hellstern of Turtle Lake, and Dale (Carla) Hellstern of Turtle Lake; grandchildren: Zachary Hansen (Jaime Novak) and Erica Hansen (Rich Luevano), Joe Hoffman, Rebecca Hoffman (Chris Moody), Lisa (Mike) Halverson and Rita (Todd) Engelken; great grandchildren: Olivia and Morgan Hansen, Axl and Londyn Hall, and George Moody; sister, Ruth Anne Witalis; many nieces, nephews, and other family and friends. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Hellstern; son, Thomas Hellstern; grandchildren: Tony and Rhonda Hellstern; and her brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, Dec 13, 2025, at St. Ann Catholic Church with Deacon Steve Linton officiating. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 - 11 AM at the church.
Skinner Funeral Home of Cumberland/ Turtle Lake is serving the family.
