In Loving Memory of Jean Joseph Jacques Marthone
October 31, 1940 – September 27, 2025
Jean Joseph Jacques Marthone, affectionately known as Jacko, was born on October 31, 1940, in Léogâne, Haiti, to Louise Elyzée Marthone and Joseph Edgard Marthone. As the eldest of 14 siblings, Jacko carried the weight of responsibility from a young age. After losing his mother at just two years old, he was raised by his beloved grandmother, Danasie Jean Jacques Marthone, a woman whose discipline, compassion, love of God, and strength shaped the man he would become.
Jacko's early years were marked by hardship, but also by resilience. He attended Frère De L'Instruction Chrétienne in Léogâne, where he later returned as a teacher. His former students still speak of him with admiration, remembering a principled educator who left a lasting imprint on their lives.
In 1965, Jacko met the love of his life, Solange Nestor during choir practice at St. Rose De Lima Church. Their love blossomed into a lifelong partnership rooted in faith, devotion, and mutual respect. They married on 09/27/69 and immigrated to Fenimore Street Brooklyn, New York, in 1972 and purchased a home with the Barbier Family (Boss Michel, Christiana, and their children Alan, Edward, Judith and Michelle). They eventually convinced the Nestor family (Marcel, Eliana, Marc and James) to move next door.
Together with their growing community of family and friends, they raised two children, Kathleen and Guy. They built a life defined by sacrifice, generosity, and unwavering commitment to family. In 1987, they would later relocate to Long Island, NY in search of a better life and opportunities for their children.
Jacko was a hard worker who lived a life of purpose and integrity. He was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and loyal friend. His legacy lives on in the family he nurtured, the lives he uplifted, and the example he set.
Jacko worked at Shore Front Geriatric Center and drove a taxi to provide for his loved ones. From 1970 until his retirement in 2002, he remained a tireless provider and a man of deep principle. He taught his children the values of self-discipline, hard work, honesty, and faith-lessons rooted in his own journey and passed down with love.
In 2003, Jacko and Solange returned to Haiti, to the homeland he cherished. When his health declined, they returned to New York in April 2020 to seek medical care until he eventually succumbed to his illnesses.
He is survived by his dedicated and loving wife of 56 years, Solange Marthone, children, Kathleen and Guy Marthone; his daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Howell-Marthone; and his grandchildren: Noah A. Blanchard, Gabriele A. Marthone, Gisele S. Marthone, Jacqueline S. Blanchard, and Liam Marthone. He is also survived by his many brothers and sisters, Antoine Marthone and his wife Marie, Jacqueline Kernissant-Marthone, Martha Alfred- Marthone, Lucien Marthone, Keynol Marthone, Olga Marthone, Micheline Marthone, Edeline Marthone-Destin along with his aunt Moranie Elizee, Uncle Cassagnol Elizée, Luckson Merismé, Pierre Jean-Jacques, Micheline Nestor, Josette Nestor, Gabriel Nestor, Cecile Ceron, Anne-Marie Nestor, Edith Nestor and family, countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family whom he deeply loved.
Jacko will be remembered as a man of strong faith, a committed family man, a pillar of strength, and a beacon of love and respect. May he rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the grace he so generously gave.
A Word of Thanks
During these most difficult hours, the presence of family and dear friends has been a true blessing. We thank God for the precious gifts of love, kinship, friendship, and for each of you who have reminded us that His unchanging love is a wellspring of strength and serenity.
Your prayers, kindness, and support have lifted us in ways words cannot fully express. May God richly bless each of you, and may He continue to sustain us all-that is our heartfelt prayer.
A special acknowledgment to my aunts, especially Tante Zette, whose tireless care and devotion over the past several months brought comfort and dignity to my father's final days. His love was a living testament to the grace that binds our family together.
