Jean “Jeanie” Carol (Calllender-Seymour) Morrow, was born October 10, 1942, in Bay City Michigan and passed October 17, 2025, at McLaren Medical Center, Flint, Michigan. She had just turned 83.
Jean was the daughter of Russell & Adalaide (Budnik) Callender of Bay City and moved with her parents to Eastport, Michigan at the age of 6. Jeanie spoke so often about the good times she had with her Dad at the Waswagan Bar in Eastport while growing up. She would go there after school to do her homework before heading home. Jeanie graduated from Central Lake High School in 1961. She then attended Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City and earned her LPN License. She worked as an EMT for the City of Charlevoix and was a nurse for Charlevoix Area Hospital, Dr. David Strawbridge, DDS and for Dr’s Lame and Wendt at Charlevoix Surgeons office until she retired.
On May 22, 2004, Jeanie married Chuck Morrow in Charlevoix and he survives. There wasn’t a person that didn’t like or even love Jeanie. She was full of life and love and never let the grass grow under her feet. Besides working as a nurse for several years she volunteered for several organizations. She was proud to be a member of Gold Star Mothers as well as St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She and her son Kent organized the Venetian Festival Tiki Tent and she helped run that for several years plus she also volunteered organizing the Venetian Parade line up for several years. She volunteered for the Charlevoix Area Trout Tournament and enjoyed organizing her annual block parties. Jeanie ran her own bartending and wait service for several years as ‘Let Jeanie Serve You’.
As Winston Churchill said, “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give”. This was Jeanie to a T.
Jeanie’s greatest joy in life were her Children, Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren and was so excited to recently learn that she was going to have another great-grandchild in the spring of 2026. Jeanie enjoyed attending all the kids’ sporting and school events and loved bragging about all their accomplishments. She loved being a Rayder Mom back in the day. Just mention any of her kids or Grandkids names and her face would light up and you would hear the latest stories of each of them.
Jeanie and Chuck spent several years at Ponderosa Park in Bayonet Point, Florida and made several friends over the years that they cherished and gained as another family. She would call them her Florida Family.
Jeanie is survived by her husband, Charles “Chuck” Morrow, 2 sons Kent (Shari Jones) Seymour, Chris (Sharon) Seymour, Grandchildren Drew (Loran) Seymour, Shelby Seymour, Kendra (Keith) Cranick, and Brenden Russell. Great Grandchildren, Willis, Ellis, Gracie, Charley, Joey, McKenzie, Mason, Hannah, Kolton and Alexander. Nephews Don, Dave and Dan Callender and Niece Diane Callender Hanewich. Stepchildren Tara Morrow, Kris Morrow-Russell, Chad (Rachel) Morrow and Lindy (Eric) Rowell. Several other great nieces, nephews, cousins and very dear girlfriends Holly, Louise, Nancy and Rita. If we listed all of Jeanie’s friends, we would have to write a book because she had so many due to her good nature and giving heart. Please know she cherished ALL of her friends so much.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, Russell and Addie Callender, her dear Brother Jerry Callender, and Sister-in-law Judy Callender.
Jeanie’s family would like to thank the hard work and dedication that the nurses and doctors gave her at McLaren Northern Michigan and McLaren Flint CCU. Memorial contributions may be made in Jeanie’s name to the Charlevoix County Humane Society, 614 Beardsley St., Boyne City, MI 49712 or St. Jude’s's Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Visitation will be held Thursday, October 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church. A Memorial Mass with Fr. Peter Wigton officiating will be held Friday, October 24 at 2 p.m. with a visitation beginning at 1 p.m. also at the church.
