Jean Antonia Krebs, longtime resident of Campbellsport, died on September 17, 2025 at her home, surrounded by loved ones. She was 91 years old. Jean was born in Richmond, Indiana to Anthony and Hilda (Maurer) Luerman. She attended St. Andrew’s Grade School and graduated from Richmond High School in 1951. She enjoyed her work as a legal secretary both in Richmond and in Davenport, Iowa where her husband, Russ, attended Palmer Chiropractic College after their marriage on August 22, 1953. She encouraged and helped him get his degree, often typing up his class notes late into the night. They moved to Campbellsport in January of 1958.
In September of 1955, she became a work-at-home mother until the youngest of their seven children was old enough to be left with his older siblings. While her family was always her priority, she did fill in as receptionist at Russ’s chiropractic office when needed and loved the chiropractic way of life. Jean had become a positive thinker at the age of fourteen – even before the term was commonly used. She always tried to find good in everyone and always favored the underdog. She loved being a Catholic, but most of all liked to say she was a Christian. She prayed to the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of Perpetual Help, who she credited with talking to God on her behalf. Every night after she said her prayers, she talked with God about her day. Her basic philosophy was that if people lived by the Ten Commandments and the Golden Rule, it would be a peaceful and loving world.
Jean considered her greatest achievement to be her seven children. She wanted them to be successful in life and to be contributing members of society. Education was always a priority for her and Russ. Their children all attended college with some achieving advanced degrees. She volunteered at St. Matthew’s School as a teacher’s aide, worked with confirmands, and transported band kids to practices. She drove for the Meals on Wheels program and volunteered with the Girl Scout program in Campbellsport, acting as Advisor to the Senior Troop and for several years, served as cookie chairman. She was a past member of the Campbellsport Women’s Club and the Christian Women. She enjoyed music, Hershey Almond candy bars and puzzles of all kinds. While wintering in Florida, she enjoyed watching the dolphins swim while seated on her balcony.
Jean is survived by her children Valerie (Al) Floeter, Mary (Rod) Tinberg, Mike (Pam) Krebs, Ann (Joe) Byrne, Kathy (Brian) Gottlieb, Carol (Victor) Beecher and Dave (Melinda) Krebs. She is further survived by 23 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, her sister Mary Coblentz and sister-in-law Pat Noack. Her husband Russ died in January of 2022.
The family would like to thank Bonnie and Bill Schill for being wonderful, caring, and helpful neighbors. They would also like to thank the nurses and staff from SSM Health Hospice, especially Denise, Heather, Sarah, and Shiloh. Memorials should be directed to St. Matthew’s School in Campbellsport.
Visitation will be Saturday, October 4, 2025 at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, 406 E. Main St. Campbellsport from 9:30-10:45 am. The funeral mass will start at 11:00.
