Jean Ann McLain, age 74, of Cape Girardeau, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, August 29, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born August 9, 1951, in Cape Girardeau, the daughter of Lyman and Jewell Frances Nitsch Moore. On December 27, 1969, she married George McLain, and together they shared 55 wonderful years of marriage.
Jean was a proud graduate of Cape Central High School and a lifelong resident of Cape Girardeau. She dedicated her life to caring for her family, which brought her the greatest joy.
She is survived by her devoted husband, George McLain; two daughters, Monica (Ben) Duncan and Malinda (James) Day of Sikeston; her mother, Jewell Moore; and four siblings, Fred (Vivian) Moore, Jim (Kathy) Moore, Ronald Joe (Sherry) Moore and Joni (Kevin) Stanley; two cherished grandchildren, Waylon Michael Shaffer and Axel Cole Duncan; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Matthew Wilson McLain, her father, Lyman Moore and a nephew, Joe Paul Moore.
A memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
Jean will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her gentle spirit, and the many lives she touched throughout the years.
Memorial Contributions are suggested to be made in Jean’s memory to the American Cancer Society or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
