Jean Pedicone, 92, of Middletown, DE, passed away at her home on March 12, 2025. She was born on February 17, 1933, in Wilmington, DE, to Clara and Robert Spear.
Jean was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She is survived by her two daughters, Anita Paulson and Mary Ellen Austin, her 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and countless nieces and nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard Pedicone, her sons Richard and Dominick Pedicone, and her son-in-law, Michael Paulson.
She will be remembered for her unwavering love, kindness, and the immense joy she brought to all who knew her. Jean's warm heart and gentle spirit were felt by everyone who had the privilege of being in her life.
A passionate volunteer, Jean dedicated much of her time to many local organizations. She was an active member of St. Joseph's Parish in Middletown, where she gave selflessly to her community. Jean also volunteered her time to run the gift shops at both Woodlea Retirement Apartments and the MOT Senior Center, served as a volunteer at Townsend Elementary School, and was a charter member of the Columbiettes Old Bohemia Auxiliary with the Knights of Columbus. Jean's talents extended to being an experienced chocolate candy maker, a gift she joyfully shared with others.
Family was everything to Jean. She was a loving wife to her high school sweetheart, Richard, with whom she shared 51 wonderful years of marriage together before his passing in 2004. She cherished her role as a mother and grandmother and always found happiness in the presence of her family. Jean's greatest joy was her family, her home was always the heart of the celebration. Whether it was holidays, or summers spent around the family pool, her love for entertaining was unmatched. Jean was a marvelous cook, and her kitchen was filled with warmth as she lovingly prepared meals for family and friends. Every gathering was a feast of love, laughter, and memorable moments.
Jean also enjoyed traveling, visiting places like Italy, Greece, Alaska, and Mexico, as well as many beautiful locations up and down the entire East Coast. She especially loved spending time at the beach, where she could relax and enjoy the peaceful sound of the waves. She will be remembered fondly for her love of dancing with her husband, Richard.
Jean was a lifelong reader and was never without a book in her hand. She remained active by doing activities like yoga and Wii bowling with her friends at Meadowcrest. She also enjoyed her monthly meetings with her dear friends and playing Bunco.
Jean's life was marked by her positivity and infectious smile. She was always upbeat, offering support, and radiating love to all around her.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 27th, at St. Joseph's Parish, 371 E. Main St., Middletown, DE. The family will be receiving friends starting at 10:30 AM, with the mass beginning at 11:30 AM, followed by a burial at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a cause that was very dear to her heart. Jean will be dearly missed by all those who loved her.
