Jean Peters Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Johnson-Arrowood Funeral Home on Mar. 30, 2026.
Jean Hawkins Peters, age 88, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully at her home following an extended illness surrounded by her family on Thursday, March 27, 2026.

Jean was such a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her number one priority was always her Lord Jesus and her family which came across in everything she did. Her zest for life came across in her warm smile and joyful laughter. Even a stranger would experience her glass half full outlook on life.

Born in Castlewood, VA she lived most of her life in Hawkins & Sullivan Counties in TN. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Church Hill, TN where she taught Sunday School in the children's department. She worked at the Kingsport Press and later was a business & retail owner.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Vencil & Cornette Hawkins; husband, Jerry Peters; grandson, Justin Simpson; brothers, Harold Hawkins, Ulas Hawkins and Billy Hawkins.

Survivors include daughter Shaun Moore and husband, Bryan; sons, Steve Peters and wife, Becky and Tim Peters and wife Tonya; grandchildren, Erica Peters, Kaci Bays, Jeremy Peters, Jordan Kirk, Sierra Compton, Jacob Peters and 10 great grandchildren; step mother, Mary Hawkins; and brother, Bobby Hawkins.

Calling hours are from 5:00pm-6:00pm, Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at the Johnson Arrowood Funeral Home and anytime at the residence. A funeral service will be conducted at 6:00pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Bryan Moore and Rev. Gary Gerhardt officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00am Thursday, April 2, 2026 at the V.A. Mountain Home National Cemetery. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:45am Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church in Church Hill, TN.
