Jean J. Ruege, 92, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, September 29, 2023 at The Bay of Suring. She was born on December 23, 1930 in the town of Green Valley, daughter of the late Harvey and Elsie (Nauman) Hansen. Jean was a graduate of Gillett High School. She was employed at Pulaski Shoe Company until her marriage. On May 23, 1959 she married Melvin Ruege at Bethel Lutheran Church in Green Valley. He preceded her in death on August 17, 1992. The couple farmed in the town of Gillett until their retirement. Jean was a member of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, Gillett. She was active in the Ladies Aid, was a Sunday School Teacher and the Lady Quilters. Survivors include nieces and nephews: Dennis (Judy) Ellie, Sharon Prey, Wayne Ellie, Diane Jakups, Kathy (Jeff) Bahrke, Jeff (Renae) Hansen, Burt (Mary Beth) Ruege, and Nancy (Larry) Carter; other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents: Harvey and Elsie Hansen; her husband: Melvin; one brother: Leroy (Nonie) Hansen; two sisters: Elaine (Arthur) Ellie, and Irene Hansen; nephew: Ron Ellie; Nieces: Connie and Carol Hansen, Joey Ruege; Brothers-in-law: Frank (Martha) Ruege, Bill (Ruth) Ruege. Visitation for Jean will be held on Friday morning, October 6, 2023 from 9:30 AM until 11:00 AM at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, 101 W Main St, Gillett. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 6, 2023 at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church. The Kuehl Funeral Home, 108 E Main St, Gillett, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
