It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jean Gibson Shealy of Aiken, SC and Hendersonville, TN who passed away on August 13, 2024.
Jean was born in SC and was the daughter of Henry Arthur Gibson and Charlotte "Lottie" Rast Gibson.
She worked as a medical lab technician at the Savannah River Plant. She and her husband lived in Aiken, SC until he was transferred to the DuPont plant in Old Hickory, TN in 1964. They were transferred back to Aiken 16 years later. While in Hendersonville she was a member of the League of Women Voters and was an active member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church. When she returned to Aiken she attended St. Paul Lutheran Church and was active in WELCA.
She was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, sister and had many great friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Erskine Taylor Shealy, daughter Allison Shealy Wolhaupter and her siblings Ray Gibson, Claude Gibson and Hilda Ott.
She is survived by her daughter Ann Shealy Lay (Allen), son-in-law Carl Wolhaupter, granddaughter Wendy Miller Larsen (Chad), grandson Jeremy Taylor Miller and several nieces and nephews. We will all miss her dearly but, know that she is in a better place.
Visitation will be held at Whitaker Funeral Home, Newberry SC on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at 12:00 with a Celebration of Life service at 1:00. The burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to The American Cancer Society.
