Jean Simoneau Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jan. 21, 2026.
Jean A. (Kinney) Simoneau passed away on January 15 at the age of 102 after a brief illness. Jean was born in Detroit, MI on March 24, 1923 to H. Edison Kinney and Blanche (Duntley) Kinney. Her early years were spent moving from place to place while her father managed department stores around the country. At the age of ten, her family settled in Loveitt's Field, South Portland. She graduated from South Portland High School in 1941 and attended the Portland School of Fine and Applied Arts, where she met her future husband artist Everett Simoneau.

During the war years, Jean worked in an office at the South Portland shipyard. She enjoyed dancing at the USO Club where she was a hostess. In the 1950s she and Everett bought a house in York, Maine and were prominent in the York Art Association. After Everett's death in 1989, Jean continued to live in York Village well into her 90's. She worked part-time as a private secretary for many years. Jean enjoyed line dancing, trips to Foxwoods, the Red Hats, and the Red Sox and Patriots.

She was predeceased by her husband and her brother Crawford Kinney. She is survived by her three children David Simoneau of Haverhill, MA and partner Deborah Cote, Thomas Simoneau of Alfred and wife Karen, and Joanne Langerman of Scarborough and partner Michael, two grandchildren Alisha Langerman and Katie Langerman, and one great-grandson Theo Langerman-O'Day.

The family would like to thank The Cedars for their compassionate care during her final two years. Burial will be private.
