Jean Wright Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McCalla Memorial Funeral Home on Dec. 18, 2025.
Jean Jordan Wright, 89, of Lake View, AL went to her heavenly home on December 17th, 2025 at UAB West surrounded by her family.

Born on October 6th, 1936 in Vernon, AL, Jean was the eldest daughter of Dewey Jordan and Velma (Hall) Jordan.

Jean was known for her feisty personality, never afraid to tell you exactly what was on her mind. She was also known for her fierce love of family and the Lord. She had a long lasting career that she adored where she spent over 40 years working as a secretary at the Callahan Eye Foundation Hospital. After decades of dedicating herself to work, she retired to enjoy her time loving on her grandchildren, and most recently, 2 of her great-grandchildren. Her favorite calling in life was being Granny, not just to her family, but to all of her grandchildren's friends and their families. In her spare time, she could be found reading her Bible, watching Hallmark movies, the Crimson Tide, and enjoying her favorite snack of coffee and Honey Buns.

Jean is survived by her sisters Barbara Brake (Curtis) and Sarah Arnold (Jimmy), her daughter Jena Shourds (Jason), her step-daughters Lynn Sides (Larry) and Pam Decola (Tony), her grandchildren Taylor Woods (Michael), Will Shourds (Lea), Kristy Riddle (Tony), Larry Sides (Kelly), John Sides (Alit), Lorie Poe, multiple nieces and nephews, and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William Wright, her brother Paul Jordan (Burma), and her grandson David Decola.

A visitation will be held on Saturday December 20, 2025 at McCalla Memorial Funeral Home from 9:30-11:00 AM followed by a service starting at 11:00. There will be a graveside service at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Jean's name Ady's BiG Army or the National MPS Society.
