Jeanette Meadows Obituary

Jeanette Edwards Meadows

December 12, 1938 - August 29, 2025

Jeanette Edwards Meadows passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025, with her family by her side. Born in Sanford, N.C. on December 12, 1938, she was the only child of James Maglenn Edwards and Marjorie Matthews Edwards. Soon after she was born, her family moved to New Bern, N.C. where her father managed the eastern end of the family business, the Atlantic & East Carolina Railroad. She attended New Bern public schools and graduated from New Bern High School. She attended and graduated from the Woman's College of the University of North Carolina, now known as the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

After college, Jeanette married her high school sweetheart, Jon Wade Meadows in 1960. They had a long and happy marriage of 50 years until Jon's death in December of 2010.

She was a lifelong Catholic and a parishioner at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Prior to her joining St. Pius X, she and Jon were founding parishioners of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, in Greensboro, in 1974. Her family had a long history of supporting the Catholic faith in North Carolina, going back to the 1930's when her parents, along with other local Catholics, established the first Catholic church in Sanford, NC, St. Stephens Catholic Church.

She and Jon moved to Greensboro in 1962 where they started their family, having four children and nine grandchildren. Before Jeanette became ill, she was a long-serving volunteer and benefactor of The Potters House of the Greensboro Urban Ministry. She also was a longtime member of the Greensboro Symphony Guild. In addition to being able to travel the world with Jon on many MassMutual trips, she loved vacationing in Boca Grande, FL where they spent several weeks each winter. Her favorite pastime, though, was spending as much time as possible at the family beach house in Emerald Isle, NC. She also loved tennis and spent countless hours on the courts in her earlier years at Greensboro Country Club, where she and Jon were long-time members.

Surviving Jeanette are her four children: Wade Meadows and his wife, Nancy, Jon E. Meadows and his wife, Sandra, Christopher Meadows and his wife, Leslie, and Katherine E. Meadows; and nine grandchildren: William Meadows, Sarah Meadows, Jacob Meadows, Sydney Meadows, Sabrina Meadows Schiffbauer, Phoebe Meadows, Caleb Martin, Brody Martin and Jon Patrick Martin.

The Meadows family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Jeanette's caregivers, Maria, Clarissa, Joyce and Susan.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to Greensboro Urban Ministry at 305 W. Gate City Blvd, Greensboro, NC 27406, or St. Pius X Catholic Church at 2210 N. Elm St. Greensboro, NC 27408.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Greensboro on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 10 a.m. There will be a reception in the Simmons Center following the service. Visitation will be Tuesday 5 to 7 p.m. at Forbis & Dick Funeral Services, 1118 N.Elm St., Greensboro, NC 27401.
