Mom met Phil Singletary, and they became high school sweethearts. They were homecoming king and queen at Elroy High School in 1952. Mom worked at Myrtle's drive-in as a carhop and also babysat former Gov. Tommy Thompson. After graduation, Mom moved to Madison to work for Dean S.M. Riegel. This is where we got our family's famous spaghetti sauce recipe, which was from his family in Italy.
Mom and Dad were married on June 4, 1955, in Elroy. With Dad's job at the railroad, they moved around a lot during the early years, settling in Clyman in 1963. In 2004, they moved to Watertown and enjoyed meeting new friends. She served as the Village of Clyman treasurer and on the election board for many years. Mom worked at Aunt Nellie's in the kitchen and served as playground supervisor at Clyman Elementary. She enjoyed being a Girl Scout troop leader. Most of all, she loved her years with the Clyman Community Club, where many hours were spent with friends, fundraising to benefit activities for the local children.
After 64 years of marriage, Dad passed away on November 9, 2019. She was also preceded in death by her parents and sister, Betty.
She is survived by her children, Scott (Judy) Singletary, Laurel (Dan) Finger, Lisa (Tim) Claas, and Paul Singletary; grandchildren, Greg (Brigette), Lynn (Jason), Erica (Fred), Jeremy (Janelle), Nicole, Brian (Brittany), Jesselan, and Breana; 12 loving great-grandchildren; a special friend, Sandy Sullivan; and other relatives and friends.
She was thrilled to recently celebrate her 90th birthday with her family. She is now reunited with Dad in Heaven and, as she always said to us, rest, just rest. We will always love and miss you.
