Jeanette Syverson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Henry-Olson Funeral Home and Crematory - Estherville on Feb. 4, 2026.
Jeanette Marie (Clabaugh) Syverson, the daughter of Charles and Susie (Claude) Clabaugh was born September 4, 1936 on a farm near Dolliver, Iowa. She passed away at Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong, Iowa on Monday, February 2, 2026 at the age of 89, surrounded by her loving family.

Jeanette received her early education at Maple Hill School and graduated from Dolliver High School in 1954. During her school years, she was active in glee club, plays, basketball, and earned the nickname of "the little dynamo" from her classmates.

Following her graduation, Jeanette moved to California, where she worked at the toy store in Disneyland and as a telephone operator. She would often reminisce of all the famous people she met while living there.

On June 13, 1959 she was united in marriage to Donald Syverson in Fairmont, Minnesota. The couple made their home in Estherville until July of 1973 when they moved to an acreage near Huntington. In December of 2017, Jeanette and her husband moved to Spring Creek Assisted Living and later to Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong, Iowa.

Jeanette was a devoted and loving mother to her three girls, Donnette, Sherry and Teresa. The family spent many cherished hours around the table enjoying the meals from her garden, playing cards and sharing stories. She was always actively involved with her family, serving as a Girl Scout Brownie leader, helping with 4-H projects, dressing as a cat at Halloween to deliver treats and sewing matching outfits for her girls. She enjoyed gardening, trips to the casino, and especially spoiling her grandchildren.

She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Estherville, where she served on various church committees, taught Sunday School and helped to deliver Meals on Wheels.

Jeanette touched many hearts with her caring and all who knew her loved her gift of gab and sense of humor. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and caregivers.

Left to cherish Jeanette's memory are her three daughters, Donnette (Dennis) Petersen of Phoenix, Arizona; Sherry (Bret) Mace of Estherville; Teresa (Brian) Johanson of Swea City; five grandchildren; Drew (Krystie) Petersen of Fort Worth, Texas; Danielle (Brandon) Hester of Mesa, Arizona; Stormie Johanson (Ben Connor) of Meridian, Idaho; Cole (Jeanette) Mace of Ruthven, Iowa; Brock Mace of Estherville, Iowa; great grandchildren Emma Petersen, Barrett and Griffen Mace; sister-in-law, Mary Clabaugh of Estherville, Iowa and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Jeanette death were her parents; husband, Donald; brothers, Charles, Alton, Alvin, Donald and Clifford Clabaugh; and sisters, Neomi Linn and Viola Clabaugh.
