Jeanne Amory NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Jeanne Jaques Amory peacefully entered into eternal rest on June 4, 2025. Jeanne was born November 1 ,1937 in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of Charles Aimar Jaques and Virginia Reeves Jaques. Jeanne was predeceased by her husband, Mr. Guy Carlton Amory, Jr.; her son, Wilbur Jennings Taylor, III; daughter, Mrs. Mary Eleanor Taylor Compton; grandson, Braden Carlton Compton, brothers, Charles Aimar Jaques, Jr., John Henry Veronee; and sisters, Virginia Cadelle, Doris Solt, Helen Woltz and Shirley Royster. Jeanne is survived by her daughter, Dr Elizabeth Dawn Taylor Hunt (Dr William Stuart Hunt); her grandson, Dr William Stuart Hunt, Jr. and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Jeanne was a native of Charleston, S.C., raised her family in Wilmington, N.C., and finally resided in Newport News, VA for 35 years. She was a graduate of Charleston High School. Following high school, she worked for The State Ports Authority in Charleston, S.C., The State Ports Authority in Wilmington, N.C., The Charleston Parks and Recreation Department and the Hunt Dental Practice in Poquoson, VA. She was a member of Holy Communion Episcopal Church in Charleston, S.C., St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Wilmington, N.C., and she attended First United Methodist Church in Newport News, VA. with her husband, Guy. Jeanne enjoyed attending church, spending time outdoors by the water, dancing, cooking, playing bridge and teaching Sunday School at St. Andrews. In her younger years, Jeanne enjoyed modeling, competing in and winning local beauty pageants, but her true beauty was from within. She was kind, compassionate, generous, and loved doing things for others. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. Her heart was full of love for them, and she often referred to them as "her heart strings". Her face would "light up "whenever her grandchildren entered the room. Routinely, Jeanne would read devotions and her prayer book for The Lord's daily guidance and after many years of struggling with dementia; she is now in eternal peace and under The Lord's love and care. Jeanne's family extends their deepest gratitude to the nurses and hospice workers that cared for her and to Lisa Hood, who helped to oversee that care. A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 13, 2025, at 3:00 at Parklawn Memorial Park in Hampton, VA. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Holy Communion Episcopal Church in Charleston, S.C., St Andrew's Episcopal Church in Wilmington, N.C. and First United Methodist Church in Newport News, VA.
