Jeanne Becker Obituary

Jeanne (Richey) Becker was born in Ardmore, OK on March 16, 1937. She passed away peacefully in her sleep in Duncan, OK on September 13, 2025 at the age of 88. She was preceded in death by her parents Pascall and Jessie (McBride) Richey as well as her siblings Mahatta Flinn, LaRetha Henson, and David Richey. She will be missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
When her father first saw Jeanne, she was wrapped in a pink blanket with one foot sticking out. He said this was an indication of things to come. Her mother said she was born asking questions. She was a precocious child who loved to climb trees, speak her mind, and get into situations requiring rescue by one or both of her parents.
Jeanne began her education at the age of 5 and continued to attend Bray Schools for 12 years. Upon graduation in 1954 she attended Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha for 2 years, after which she married and had two daughters, Amber and Gena. Jeanne later moved to Kansas to raise her daughters on her own and applied for a job. Her future husband Loren Becker interviewed and hired her to work at the Johnson County USDA office. Loren was a "bachelor extraordinaire" but they began courtship sharing activities such as dining out and attending shows, ball games, and musical events. They were married in Olathe, KS on April 20, 1968 at Redeemer Lutheran Church. A year-and-a-half later, their son John was born. Jeanne was a stay-at-home mom until her son started kindergarten. She completed her education at MidAmerica Nazarene College in Olathe, KS and went on to teach children and young adults with special needs for over 20 years.
While living in Olathe, Jeanne was active in her church, the Junior Service League, Daughters of the American Revolution, and other civic organizations. She loved entertaining for almost every holiday, and would rotate through different sets of decoration as each year progressed. Jeanne was known throughout her life for her wonderful baking-cookies, cakes, pies, fudge, and other desserts. She enjoyed hosting her bridge club, attending live jazz performances with Loren, and spending time with family and friends.
After retirement, Jeanne persuaded Loren to move back to her home state, where "the red dirt of Oklahoma was calling her name." She continued to be active in the community including DAR, Wreaths Across America, and volunteer work at Duncan Regional Hospital. She lived happily in Oklahoma for the remainder of her life-a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, aunt and great-aunt, wife and friend.
She is survived by her husband Loren Becker of Duncan, daughters Amber Glass of Nettie, WV and Gena Glass of Tipton, IN and son John Becker of Denver, CO. Her grandchildren are Becca O'Dell, Jesse O'Dell, Samuel Weekly, Leland Weekly, Thomas Becker, and Steven Becker. Great-grandchildren are Trey Marks, Kylah Marks, Christian Marks, and Josie Pitzer. Her great-great-grandchild is Vivian Marks.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 1, at Whitt Funeral Home (4748 N. Highway 81, Duncan, OK 73533) at 1 PM, followed immediately by the funeral service at 3 PM.
