Jeanne Mary Cantwell (née King), age 100, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2025, in Glen Head, New York. Born on October 16, 1924, in the Bay Ridge neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, Jeanne lived a century marked by unwavering faith, devoted service, and boundless love for her family and community.

Jeanne was one of seven siblings, all of whom predeceased her. She graduated from St. Edmund's High School in Flushing, New York, and at the age of 19, inspired by a subway sign that read "The story of you in Navy Blue, Uncle Sam needs you," she proudly enlisted in the United States Navy. Stationed at Floyd Bennett Field, Jeanne took immense pride in wearing the uniform and serving her country during a pivotal time in history.

In 1946, Jeanne met William Cantwell, an Army mechanic. The two were married on Flag Day-June 14, 1947-a fitting tribute to their shared dedication to service and country. Together they built a warm and lively home in Queens Village, raising ten children over the next two decades. Their first child arrived in 1948, and their family continued to grow with love and laughter filling every corner of their modest home.

Jeanne's life was deeply rooted in her Catholic faith. A devoted member of Our Lady of Lourdes parish community in Queens Village, she attended daily Mass and offered prayers for those in need. She was active in the Rosary Society and served as a lector and Eucharistic minister. Her commitment extended beyond the church walls-she taught religious education classes and brought communion to the homebound through an Outreach program. Jeanne's favorite saying, "Let Go and Let God," guided her through life's many joys and challenges.

Her vibrant spirit found expression in countless ways. Jeanne loved reading and singing in the church choir. She volunteered tirelessly at parish and school events such as the Bazaar and International Night. Jeanne served on the PTA board as President. One of her favorite roles was as a school recess monitor where she earned the affectionate nickname "The Warden" She brought energy, humor, and order to every endeavor. Jeanne also delighted audiences as a performer with the "Little Theatre Group," showcasing her flair for storytelling and performance.

Throughout her life, Jeanne cultivated deep friendships within the Our Lady of Lourdes community that sustained her through decades of change. Her wisdom was cherished by many; she had a gift for sharing thoughtful guidance wrapped in humor and grace. She was known for her quick wit, loving nature, and ability to light up any room she entered.

Jeanne was predeceased by her beloved husband Bill, her grandson Joseph, and all seven of her siblings. She leaves behind a legacy carried forward by her ten children: Terry (Joe), Kevin (Cathy), Lesley, Gerard (Tina), Denise, John (Theresa), MaryBeth (Tom), Stacey (Mike), Kim (David), and Jeanine (Sal); twenty grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Jeanne Mary Cantwell lived a life filled with purpose, faith, laughter, and love-a century well-lived. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her and continue to inspire generations to come. A Wake will be held on September 7, 2025, 2:00pm-4:00pm and 7:00pm-9:00pm at Park Funeral Chapels, 2175 Jericho Turnpike, Garden City Park, N.Y. A Funeral Mass will be held on September 8, 2025 at 10:45am at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 92-96 220th Street, Queens Village, N.Y.
