Jeanne Lynn (Rains) Latting was born June 16, 1951, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of John E. Rains and Virgina (Billings) Rains. While growing up, she attended Grace Brethren Church, where she played the piano and sang duets with her sister Janet in church services. Jeanne graduated from West Waterloo High School in 1969, and on April 21, 1973, she married Roger Latting at Camp Pendleton, California. They were divorced many years later. As the wife of a career Marine, she followed him to several duty stations including Hawaii and North Carolina. During this time, she had four children. Jeanne worked at a variety of jobs including The State of California in San Diego and lastly Toyota Credit in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she retired. Throughout her life, Jeanne continued to play piano at churches where she attended.
Jeanne died September 30, 2025, after a long illness in Waterloo, Iowa. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Craig Rains of San Diego, California, and brother-in-law, Jeff Gales of Van Horne. She is survived by four children, Paul (Steph) Latting of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Robert Latting of San Diego, California, Katie Herrick of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Lucy (Gary) Gurnsey of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, John E. Rains of San Diego, California and sister, Janet Gales of Van Horne, Iowa.
Memorials may be directed to Grace Fellowship Church.
Visitation: Monday, October 6, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, 965 Home Plaza.
Service: Monday, October 6, 2025, at 11:00 am at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories.
Burial: Following the service at Memorial Park Cemetery.
