Jeanne M. Sowers, 83, of Fort Loudon, passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2025.

Born May 3, 1942 in Chambersburg, PA, she was daughter of the late John W. Hollenshead and Vera M. Mellott.

Jeanne attended Lemasters High School. She worked 12 years at Hagerstown Speedway at the concession stand, the Mercersburg Elementary School cafeteria, GC Murphy, and J&J Laundromat where she worked as a seamstress. Jeanne enjoyed quilting, sewing, tending her flowers, and camping with her family and friends.

Jeanne is survived by her husband William H. Sowers, and 3 children, Cheryl (Mike Wenger) Gelsinger, Gary (Jodi Boyer) Sowers, and Cathy (Greg) Smith, 6 grandchildren, Steven, James, Brandy, John, April, and Jessica, and 13 great-grandchildren, Shane, Sam, Joey, Riley, Mason, Parker, Kiersten, Gavin, Olive, Remington, Luca, Kay lee Ann, Charlee, and a 1 great-great-grandchild due in November.

Jeanne was preceded in death by 6 siblings.

A funeral will be 2:00 PM on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg, PA, with Reverend Harold Yeager officiating and burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg, PA. There will be a viewing from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM before the funeral.
