Jefferson Haywood Bruton

Jefferson "Jeff" Haywood Bruton died on November 2, 2024 at the Carolina Village Medical Center. Jeff was born in Hamlet, NC on March 6, 1939 to the late David Uriah Bruton and Rose Haywood Bruton, and predeceased by his sister, Ida Rose Bruton Dillon. He was the only grandson of the late E.T. Haywood of Mount Gilead, NC.
Jeff grew up in Hamlet, NC finishing as valedictorian of Hamlet High School. He graduated from Davidson College, majoring in Economics and Business and was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Jeff remained a lifelong fan of the famous Davidson Wildcats basketball team.
In 1965, Jeff received a Juris Doctorate from Wake Forest University School of Law, where he was a member of Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity.
Jeff spent his life as an attorney in Hendersonville, NC. Jeff was truly a Southern gentleman lawyer, trusted and respected by clients and colleagues, alike. He treated his profession as a most noble one. His Southern manners followed him everywhere, including helping the disadvantaged.
Jeff was very proud of his farm in Anson County, NC, enjoying much leisure time there. Jeff is survived by his wife, Linda Anderson Bruton and a golden retriever named Lily Anne. He also leaves behind three nephews: Matthew, Paul and Lloyd Dillon.
Jeff was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hendersonville and held various positions in civic organizations in his town. He was a truly gentle soul and leaves behind a legacy rich in ethics and common decency.
His service will be held at the Church Street Chapel on Saturday November 9, 2024 at 11:00 am and a reception will follow.
