Jeffrey Evans Obituary

Published by Legacy on Apr. 2, 2024.
Jeffrey L. Evans of Basalt, Colorado, passed away on March 27, 2024, after a skiing accident.
Jeffrey was born in Ridgecrest, California on March 7, 1952, the son of Milton and Juanita Evans (Booth). He is survived by his longtime partner, Courtney Keller, and the family of his dear sister, Sheila Evans Ray; her daughter Stephanie Rich, her family Rick, Colin (Cayla) and McKenna Rich of Salt Lake City; his nephew, Jeremy Ray and family Jessica, Juliet and Johnny Ray of Santa Cruz, California.
It was the Music Festival that drew Jeffrey to Aspen in the summer of his 19th year, and he made the Roaring Fork Valley his home for life. His career was varied: he built architectural models, sold stereo equipment, and drove professionally for limousine and taxi companies. As a commercial driver, he was passionately involved in the struggle to solve the ongoing problem of traffic congestion at the entrance to Aspen, and his letters to the editor were enjoyed by many Aspenites over the years.
Jeffrey was a devoted traveler. He loved sunsets, lakes, mountains and oceans. He traveled to Norway in the winter to photograph the northern lights, and he snorkeled in New Guinea and Lord Howe Island. He visited the elephants and giraffes in Africa, bathed in the Ganges River and hiked the mountains of Tibet. Above all, Jeffrey loved every type of music, from classical to jazz to Zouk, and he traveled the world to enjoy its music. His was a life of exploration and adventure.
Jeffrey will be sorely missed by his family, his many friends, and a special turtle. A celebration of his life will be arranged at a later date to be announced.

Jeffrey´s devotion to solving Aspen´s transportation problems was a generous gift to his community since the amount of time and effort he spent on it vastly exceeded the time he might have saved from wasted sitting in less traffic. I have frequently referenced his website as being the most insightful and educational resource on the topic, so I hope it is preserved. It is a tragedy that Aspen has lost his brilliant mind before this problem has been solved.
My deepest sympathies to Courtney and his family.
