had a huge heart and was a kind soul. Even if you just met him he would make you smile, laugh, and you would never forget him. He touched people's lives wherever he went. He loved his wife and family dearly, and loved to sing all the time. Jeffrey loved spending time with his wife, kids, family, and especially his grandchildren.
his wife of 20 years Melissa McGowan; his second mother, Mary McGowan; his children, Catrina (Jamar) Jenkins, Jeffrey (Charissa) McGown Jr., Mario McGowan, Jasmine (Rob) Stinger, Justin (Jessica) McGowan, Darryl McGowan, Robert Krause; stepchildren, Robert (Christina) Shuford, Shakera Shuford, Serena (Isaiah) Shuford; brothers, Gus McGowan Jr., John Dearman, David Henry, Kareem McGowan; sisters, Diane Vinson, Debra Whitehead, Ivy Whitehead, Linda (Paul) Oden, Sabrina Henry, Tamika McGowan, Gloria Carey-Green; twenty-four grandchildren; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Jeffrey was proceeded in death by his father, Gus McGowan Sr., mother, Florida B. Moten McGowan; sister, Ernestine L. Whitehead; grandparents, Eugene and Ernestine Moten, Mack McGowan, and Maggie McGowan Pratt; step-grandparents, Willie Lee and Jimmie Turner Sr.; several friends and special family members

My heart is so very sad to learn of the passing of Jeffrey. He was my friend in recovery and an amazing inspiration to me to do the right thing even in the face of fear. He will be missed very much. And he will live on in my heart along with all of those who are a part of my recovery family.
