Jeffrey McGuire Obituary

Published by Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home South on Nov. 16, 2018.
Jeffery Gene McGuire, 56, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on November 16th, 2018. Jeff was born on Oct. 6, 1962, to Lieselotte Schrimb McGuire and Charles McGuire in Moetsch near Bitburg, Reinland-Pflaz, Germany. They lived in Appenheim, Germany. After an accident claimed his father's life, his mother moved the family to Grand Island, Nebraska a year later with her three children: Monika, Johann and Jeffery. His mother remarried to John Doyle and had three more children: Ed, David and Patricia. Jeff attended 5th grade through high school at Nebraska School for the Deaf. While there he participated in drama, football, basketball, and was crowned Prom King. He furthered his education at The National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) and Concordia University, Texas. He settled on Computer Operations as his area of study. Jeff had his first assignments at AT&T in New Jersey and the IRS in Austin, TX. Eventually, he found what would become his career at the University of Texas at Austin. Jeff rose through the ranks. He started as a Computer Operator, then Senior Computer Operator, and finally Computer Operator Supervisor. On August 31, 1985, he married Carol Scott at St. John's Lutheran Church in Austin, TX. They lived in Austin and had two children there. In 1991, they moved near Bee Cave in Travis County and had one more child. They met at and joined Jesus Lutheran Church of the Deaf (JLCD) and were members for 33 years. He was a Lay Leader, Board of Property member, and also an Elder. He recently helped coordinate renovation of the Church's duplex. He preached when the pastor was away, and until last year he was preaching every other month. Jeff and Carol were happily married for 33 years. His favorite pastimes included barbecuing, family trips to the Texas coast, watching NASCAR, cross-country road trips in the RV, watching football, and volunteering at church. He loved to spend time with his family and friends. Jeff will be lovingly remembered by his wife Carol and his children: Jonathan (Sara), Benjamin, and Iris. He will also be forever remembered by aunt Hildegard, sister Monika, nephews Brett (Ashley) and Brock (Ashley), mother-in-law Grace, sister-in-law Beverly (Larry), nephew Brandon (Amy), niece Michelle (Mark), brother-in-law Keith (Marsha), nephews Tyler and Matthew (Marsha), and all of their children. There will be no visitation. The funeral service will be held Saturday, November 24, 2018, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 3501 Red River St, Austin, TX 78705. The family asks that instead of flowers, a donation be made out to Jesus Lutheran Church of the Deaf (Endowment Fund) in memory of him. Your donation will fund the Deaf Christian ministry which Jeff devoted his life to. If you would like to donate to the fund, they accept donations via the Deaf church. Please write your check out to Jesus Lutheran Church of the Deaf at 1307 Newton St, Austin, TX 78704.

I've just learned of Jeffrey's passing. I'm deeply saddened by the news, but smiling to remember such a good and generous man. In small ways he made an out-sized impacted on me and many in the UT IT community. Jeffrey was a good, kind, cheerful person I'd missed already and miss even more today.

Jeffrey was my favorite student in the NSD High School Wednesday evening Lutheran Religion classes back in the early 1980s. I am sad he died so young, but happy he is now seeing his Lord and Savior face to face.
