Jeffrey Michael Podjasek, 54, of Chicago, at rest March 17, 2024. Beloved son of Kathy (Gary) Niebuhr and Jeffrey (Vicki) Podjasek; loving brother of Scott (Tammy) Podjasek and Lexi (Manny) Inzunza; dearest uncle of Madison and Connor. Jeff was a force to be reckoned with – unapologetically himself. Fun, smart, witty, sarcastic, creative, articulate, charismatic, persistent, opinionated, loyal and loved with his whole GIANT heart. All of this was reflected in his writing, storytelling and memories made with family and friends. Jeff's life blood was the beach and his family will have the city dedicate a bench in his honor. He spent his life watching the sunrise every day he would wake up and watch the sun rising over the water. With Jeff's desire to be an organ donor, Gift of Hope worked with his family to insure he was able to improve the lives of over 75 recipients. A Celebration of Jeff's life will be held Friday March 22, 2024 from 1-4:30 P.M. at the Lake Ellyn Boat House 645 Lenox Road Glen Ellyn. Arrangements entrusted to Cappetta's West Suburban Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Downers Grove. Info 630-852-8000 or westsuburbanfh.com. Memorials may be made to Gift of Hope Community Foundation 425 Spring Lake Dr., Itasca IL 60143 or [email protected]. Any monetary gifts given to the family will be put towards Dedicate a Bench through the Chicago Parks Foundation to commemorate Jeff's love of the lake shore.
"I've garnered what I could, but to successfully accumulate that sort of wealth, one has to keep ledgers. I don't. Never have. So I don't know what I have. I've left my stories to the wind. Unencumbered I fly. Today it feels like flying." – Jeff Podjasek

For all of the learning and loving and like-mindedness, I will love you forever. Forever and a day, my Giant. I love you so.

My memories of Jeffrey are all touched by warmth and enjoyment. He was a bright light, filled with energy, humanity and adventure. The "tech guy" for my husband and his partner's offices, he migrated to being the one I called for help with our computer system at home. We always shared a pot of tea (and healthy snacks for his insatiable appetite!), and enjoyed trading stories about travel and his many interests. I listened to his news of break-ups and new attachments, of his love of the lakefront and his dogs. Mine (Elwood and Murphy) were particularly drawn to him and always chose to lie down at his feet when he sat at our computer, plying his magic. It never mattered how much time had passed; it was easy to resume conversation and familiarity. He watched our son grow up and shared our pride in his accomplishments. We often laughed at my insistence that he put his beautiful bass vocal range to work in voiceovers, one of his many distinctive features.
The world has lost a lovely, compassionate soul that has no doubt traveled on to a new existence in the universe Jeffrey so loved embracing. Fly high and strong, my friend, as you always did.
My family sends our deepest sympathies to Jeffrey's loved ones at your tragic loss, and we mourn with you. May your memories be a blessing.

Jeff is probably one of the coolest, friendliest guys I´ve ever met.
If there´s a heaven, I know he´s having a blast up there and making others laugh.
