Jeffrey Bryan Rattner, 72, of White Township, N.J. died of a short illness on Jan. 7, surrounded by family. A beloved husband, father and grandfather, Jeff will always be remembered for his sense of humor, kindness and love for his family.
Born on Dec. 13, 1952 in Queens, N.Y., Jeff grew up as the son of Stewart and Florence Rattner and was brother to Steve and Laurie. Jeff was raised in the White Meadow Lake section of Rockaway, N.J. He was a proud graduate of Morris Hills High School and William Paterson University.
On April 16, 1972, Jeff married the love of his life, Mary Ann Kaschak, and the two spent 52 wonderful years together. They soon started a family and Jeff doted on daughters Jennifer and Melissa.
Jeff loved the outdoors, going on vacation with his family, his pets, riding his bike and coin collecting. Nothing was more important to Jeff than spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He loved to laugh and always made others smile with his sharp wit and jokes. Jeff's life was enriched by the deep friendships he formed throughout his life.
Jeff worked as an industrial sales manager for several different companies over a career that spanned close to five decades.
Jeff is survived by his wife Mary Ann Rattner, his mother Florence Rattner, his daughters Jennifer Rattner-Cagnassola and Melissa Costello, his son-in-law Brian Costello, his brother Steve Rattner, his sister Laurie Babbitt, his sister-in-law Jeanne Rattner and his grandkids Kaileigh Cagnassola, Ryan Cagnassola, Abigail Cagnassola, Julia Cagnassola, Matthew Costello and Alexa Costello, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Stewart Rattner and brother in law John Babbitt.
A service to celebrate Jeff's life will be held on Jan. 10 from 4-8 p.m. at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High St., Hackettstown, NJ 07840.

We were not in touch as much the last few years, so getting together for dinner last year was special. We´ve known both Jeff and Mary Ann for over 50 years when Jeff was still single and we were both working at Atlas Sound and he always talked about his great girlfriend whom he later married. Anyone who knew him would agree he was always positive, fun loving, but for us a good friend. Linda and I (Jack) will miss him

We met Jeff at the Glen condos in Belvidere. He loved to joke and make people smile. He was witty, kind and helpful. You will be missed. So very sorry for your loss.

Jeff is one of the kindest spoken people I have ever met. He would always talk about his family that he loved so much. Our many years at Wire Cloth we had some great conversations. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this very difficult time.

Jeff was the first friend I made when we moved to WML. So he is one of my oldest and dearest friends. From day one we would find a way to do something dumb and laugh till we cried about it.
But he actually convinced me to buy a case of beer while on our senior trip.
Jeff you will be missed, love you, until we meet again.

I have many good memories of Jeff from meeting him in high school to living around the corner in Lake Hopatcong as yound married as well as seeing him at our high school reunions. He was kind, funny and overall a great guy. He and Mary Ann had a love story for the ages. RIP Jeff.
