It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jeffrey Schlegel (73) on February 28, 2025. Jeffrey was born on January 19, 1952, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, to Robert and Marilyn (Malizia) Schlegel. His family moved to Bloomfield, New Jersey, where he graduated from Montclair Academy. He attended Georgetown University (class of '73) and later received his Master's in Accounting from Rutgers University (class of '74). Jeff traveled to Germany to work for Price Waterhouse, before putting down his roots in Northern Virginia.
Jeffrey was the proud father of three wonderful daughters, Christina, Sara, and Catherine. He was also the proud dog dad of his great love, Jenny the Dog. He treated his daughters (human and canine) like princesses, ensuring their every want and need was taken care of. He once joked that he knew Jenny was his fourth daughter because she was blonde, like his other girls.
Jeff was also the proud grandfather of a growing brood of grandchildren, Lily (9), Charles (7), Daniel (4), Benjamin (2), Isabella (1), and Asher (9 months). Watching his grandchildren grow up brought him so much joy. He moved to Oregon to be closer to his eldest grandchildren and enjoyed family vacations to Hawaii, Central and Coastal Oregon, and Alaska.
In addition to being an exceptional parent and grandparent, Jeff also had an illustrious career as a CPA. He was a founding member of his namesake accounting firm Kaiser, Scherer and Schlegel, currently located in McLean, Virginia. An avid golfer, Jeff enjoyed playing at Hidden Creek Country Club with close friends and his daughters. Jeff was also an accomplished pianist; he could have made a career out of music had he not pursued accounting.
Jeff leaves behind a lot of grieving hearts as he was truly one of a kind. Humble and quiet, Jeff never complained once as he fought with valor against the debilitating disease progressive supranuclear palsy. He was the ultimate family man, loving his girls, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, and parents (who predeceased him) until the very end. Rest in peace, Jeff, and Go Hoyas!

I'm sad to learn of Jeff's passing. I only worked with his firm for a couple of years before finally getting back to Hawaii, but I always remembered him as a kind and thoughtful boss. His management style partially influenced my own style for my firm. My sincere condolences to his family. I know he is dearly missed.

Very saddened to learn of Jeff's passing. We were college friends and I remember him as a wonderful guy; someone liked by all who knew him. My sympathy goes out to all his family members.

Jeff was the best boss anyone could ever hope to have. I try to think of "what would Jeff do" whenever I run into a challenge. I count myself lucky to have known him. He is missed terribly. My heartfelt condolences to the family. May you find comfort and peace in how he touched so many people's lives.
