Kent, OH – Jeffrey Smith, age 69, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, June 18,
2025.
Born February 4, 1956, Jeffrey was one of three children born to Clellan and Nancy Smith of
Newton Falls, OH. Jeff grew up with his siblings, Connie Talcott (Jim) of North Myrtle Beach
and his brother Terry Smith (Rhonda) of Lordstown. He married the love of his life Cynthia
Smith on June 17, 1978, and they shared 47 wonderful years of love and laughter. They raised
two sons, Anthony (Nicki) Smith (North Canton, OH) and Nicholas (Melanie) Smith (Aurora)
whom he was intensely proud of and loved with every beat of his heart. He loved and was loved
by his nine grandchildren, Isaac, Kaliesta, Christian, Trenten, Alivia, Jacob, Jason, Eve, and
Miranda. His greatest joy in life was spending quality time with his family and friends.
Jeffrey is preceded in death by his parents.
Jeffrey retired from Flat Rock Metal (Bar Processing) after 32 years. Because he always loved
Halloween, he began working at Cedar Point as a HalloWeekends Screamster, then a Haunt
supervisor and finally "the best job a man could ever ask for" he put his farm and heavy
machinery background into perfect use and worked raking the beach in the mornings at Cedar
Point. For his contributions to Cedar Point, he was awarded the Cornerstone Award of
Excellence, which is only awarded to approximately less than four percent of employees for
integrity, safety, courtesy, service, and cleanliness. Just two days before he passed, he took a
picture (above) of "his office at work" that showed Lake Erie in the background, with his John
Deer tractor behind a perfectly raked beach, and his footsteps walking away through the sand.
Jeff and Cindy have spent the past nine years spending the summers and fall in Sandusky with
their friends at the KOA Bayshore Holiday Campground. He was a volunteer Redcoat at
Playhouse Square.
At Jeffrey's request, cremation will take place. A Celebration of Life will take place next summer in Sandusky.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Toft Funeral Home and Crematory in Sandusky.
The name Toft(s) is synonymous with ice cream (although no relation) and for those of you who
knew him well, you would know that he is smiling down from heaven knowing he is in ice
cream heaven.
