Obituary published on Legacy.com by Berry-McGreevey-Martens Funeral Home & Cremation Service from Nov. 26 to Nov. 28, 2025.
Jeffrey Scott Yerger, also known as "Jeff" to those closest to him, 76, entered into rest Thanksgiving morning this November 27th, 2025 after a lengthy illness and tireless fight. Husband to his late wife, Beverly Anne Yerger, with whom he shared 50 years of marriage.
Mr. Yerger was born on August 26th, 1949 in York Pennsylvania, Son of the late Marie (Patton) Yerger and the late Clyde Yerger. Jeffrey is survived by his son, Brent Yerger and his partner Von Velazquez, and his daughter, Billie Sue Gottschalk and her husband Jeffrey Charles Gottschalk; brothers Joe Yerger, Mike Yerger and Steve Yerger; nieces, nephews, and loving extended family and friends.
Jeff was a decorated service member in the United States Air Force, he served honorably and with valor during the Vietnam War, he was extremely proud to have served. He was brave, committed to freedom and family, and always had a joke ready to go no matter what the situation. Jeff retired from PP&L where he worked 40 plus years as a maintenance mechanic, working with nuclear reactors and coal fired plants, a job that benefitted many of us. There he forged bonds with men and their families that would become a central part of his family's whole lives, and continue to be to this day. After retirement, he worked at Paddy's Seafood and enjoyed the camaraderie.
He was a father unlike any, everything he did was for his family, everything. He never missed anything his kids were involved with, all the while getting poked by his coworkers for being the 'grabber', because he picked up so much overtime for his family. Jeff was a member of the Dallastown Legion, Post #605, where he was an avid pool player, and boy was he good. Anybody that knew him also knows how he loved to dance and sing, he was the life of the party.
Hiking was a huge part of Jeff's life, he and his close friends hiked national parks and trails all across America. They were the select few members of the H.A.O.A., an exclusive club. He loved crabbing with his brothers down on the Chesapeake Bay, enjoyed his fishing trips and going to ball games with his close friends. He loved taking the dogs for walks with his son Brent, who showed up everyday for so many years while Jeff still lived in York. Afterwards, both of them enjoyed watching TV and movies together, especially Jeff and Bev's favorite show, "The Voice". A few years ago Jeff moved to Cleveland, OH, where his daughter and son-in-law cared for him at home until more care was needed.
As he was a soldier of foreign war, we will be organizing a flag ceremony and a twenty-one gun salute for Jeff, back home in Pennsylvania, at a date to be determined. A celebration of life will follow that same day.
Memorial contributions can be made to the SPCA and/or Tunnel To Towers in Jeff's honor. His love of dogs and being sure to honor fellow veterans were very important to him. He shared many times, 'as soon as I got back on US soil, I swore that I would salute every American flag that I see', and he did.
As Dad would say,
'It ain't no thing, cause it ain't no big thing'
