Jeffry L. Mikeworth, 72, of Robinson, IL, passed away unexpectedly on January 20, 2024, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. Born on April 4, 1951, in Palestine, IL, Jeff grew up on a farm in the Robinson/Hardinville area. Upon graduating from Robinson High School in 1969, he selflessly committed himself to serving his country by joining the U.S. Marine Corps at the height of the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he returned to his roots in Illinois, working for Caterpillar in Peoria. Eventually, he came back to Robinson, where he dedicated 15 years to Marathon, followed by a series of jobs that kept him connected to the community he called "home".
Away from work, much of Jeff's free time was spent fishing, often sharing these serene moments with his wife, Cheryl. His love for sports was undeniable; he reveled in watching college basketball, cheered with fervor for the Chicago Bears, and felt the rush of excitement with each NASCAR race. Above all, Jeff was a devoted St. Louis Cardinals fan, his loyalty to the team as steadfast as his penchant for collecting hats. It didn't matter if they were sports-related or not; he was drawn to ball caps of all kinds.
Those who knew Jeff will fondly remember his ornery streak, always tempered by a heart of gold. He was the kind of person who would go out of his way to help anyone in need, often putting others before himself. In so doing, he left an indelible mark on our hearts. While Jeff's passing is a profound loss, his life - a true gift to us all - will forever be honored and remembered by those he leaves behind. Jeff's legacy is carried on by his beloved wife, Cheryl Walker, whom he married on June 6, 1998. She remains to honor his memory, along with his daughter, Heather Stovall; his step-son, Alex Walker; his step-grandsons, Zachary, Wyatt, and Payton; and his brothers, Jim, John, and Jack Mikeworth. His sister, Jane McIntosh, and several nieces and nephews also survive him, each reflecting a piece of Jeffry's unique spirit. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Leon Mikeworth, Sr. & Leah Joy (Culp) Mikeworth, and his sister, Karra Trout.
It was Jeff's wish to be cremated, and services will be held at a later date. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of cremation arrangements.
