Jeneal Scow Obituary

Jeneal Elizabeth Scow

1940-2023

Herriman, UT - Jeneal Elizabeth Scow, age 82, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2023.

Jeneal was born July 23, 1940, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to James Merrill and Hulda B. Dunster. She graduated from Murray High School. She married Fred Henry "Tony" Garcia in 1959, with whom she has six children; and later divorced. She was a single parent and sole provider for her six children until May 1972, when she married the love of her life, Keith G. Scow, with whom she had a son. Keith later adopted Jeneal's six children.

Jeneal worked at the Midway Café for many years making the best Mexican food. She also taught ceramic classes for many years, her ability to paint eyes was amazing. She won many awards for her ceramic pieces. When she retired, she provided care for her grandchildren and loved being their grandma. She was an avid reader and loved her books. When she found out what books her loved ones liked she would go out of her way to find them the books. She would always take her children and grandchildren to the library. She was also a collector of things and a coupon queen. She loved to dance and taught her children to dance. Some of her grandchildren lived a few houses away and they would spend many hours with their grandma and grandpa, her home was her grandchildren's second home. She was her grandchildren's taxi driver. She would drive them almost everywhere they needed or wanted to go. She spoiled her grandchildren; mostly, she loved being surrounded by those she loved.

Jeneal is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Keith G. Scow; five of her children, Lori Miller, Valerie (David) Jeffs, Julie (David) Jackson, Sherri Midliaccio, and Jason (Brooke) Scow; her three steps-sons, Keith Glenn Scow, Kevin Scow, and Joey Scow, her son-in-law Mike Ostergaard, and her daughter-in-law Lisa Scow, her 28 Grandchildren, 36 Great Grandchildren, and 3 Great-Great Grandchildren. She is also survived by her two sisters, Janice (Darrell) Almendinger, and Joyce (Mark) Stout.

She is preceded in death by her parents; James Merrill and Hulda Burgener Dunster, her two children James "Jimmy" Scow, and Janice "Kathy" Ostergaard, and her great granddaughter, Raven Neveah Vega.

A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, April 14, 2023, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe located at 1007 West South Jordan Parkway, South Jordan, Utah. All who knew and loved Jeneal are welcome to attend. The family would like to thank Jeneal's daughter, Julie Jackson, for the love and care she provided to Jeneal and Keith over the years, as well as the wonderful team of nurses at Ashby Hospice for their dedicated service to all of their patients, especially, Jeneal.

Jeneal was such a special person; so much life and spirit. It always made my day when I saw her! We met years ago at a community food bank, Ruth's kitchen. She and her husband Keith were an integral part of our community there.
